Charlie Barnet Basin Street East.jpeg
I’ve a soft spot for Charlie Barnet so when I saw this in the clearance bins I snagged it for a few pounds. I am just getting to look at it and it's a comp of a couple of dates from the mid to late 60s. The stand out factor (aside from the being tasty from the first track) is the support band(s) consisting of players like:
Not a bad bunch of supporting players.

I came across this in the bins. I wasn’t really interested until I looked at the lineup. Holy Smokes! they’re listed just above the yellow banner on the bottom. This is VERY comparable to Verve’s Jam Session#1. One song each side of the record just jammed out. So home it comes. It wasn’t until last night when it went through the USC that I discovered it was completely unplayed. As in MINT. No spindle marks, no finger prints, no nothing annnnd it has a tissue paper sleeve that seemed to still have the original folds. Still it got the spa treatment and WOW what a choice record. This think is just a great jam. I am moving this into heavy rotation.

I've got that one too! If I remember correctly, it followed me home from Philadelphia more than a decade ago. Will have to pull it out when I get home. Definitely a keeper!

I'm on the road, so it's all streaming for now. Still on Clifford Brown.

Russ Freeman Dick Twardzik Trio.jpeg
A total chance on this one as I’d never heard of Richard Twardzik. BUT, its a PacJazz reissue of some earlier sides and while searching around for info on RT, it appears he played with Chet Baker among other. Unfortunately he had a nasty habit and died in Paris in 1955 (age 24). It is a shame as his touch on the keyboard is nice.
