Dawn of the Dead (1978)


From 1967-1978, the British band the Pretty Things recorded five psychedelic albums under the alias Electric Banana, though none were sold in stores. This track was used in the soundtrack of George Romero’s 1978 classic film “Dawn of the Dead”.

"Shape of Things to Come" is a song written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil from the film “Wild in the Streets”, performed by the fictional band Max Frost and the Troopers on their 1968 album Shape of Things to Come, featuring a lead vocal by Harley Hatcher. The song was a mere 1 minute 55 seconds in length.

The song was produced by Mike Curb for the exploitation film Wild in the Streets, where actor Christopher Jones lip syncs to Hatcher's vocal. A young Richard Pryor portrayed the drummer in Jones's band. The film was released on May 29, 1968.

Wild In The Streets is a cult film and one of my favorites. The plot is based on the younger generation taking over America by spiking the Washington D.C. water supply with LSD and getting Congress to lower the voting age to 14. After Chrisopher Jones (a Jim Morrison-like cult rock star) is elected President, a law is passed mandating that anyone over the age of 30 is to be retired and shipped off to LSD concentration camps.

It's a great soundtrack and the title song reached #22 on the billboard chart as a single.
