The Schoemner clan got here a little earlier. Bavarian Anabaptists, chased up the Rhine by the Roman Catholics, who then passed the torch to the Lutterans who, by the flicker of fires, encouraged my forebear's passage (what was left of them) to Amerigo's Place.
Then they found the promised land for Bavarian Anabaptists... Texas.

Remember the "Orient Express" from Vienna to Istanbul? Instanbul is considered classically to be beginning of the Orient, from a very Euro-centric worldview (who invented the word "Orient").

Turkish, but a definite sub-set. In some ways, probably closer to the time Istanbul was known as Constantinople. The image on the front is of twirling male dancers with knives in their waistbands. They are what became known in the West as "Whirling Dervishes". Cool schit.

Here's something that's a little different. Box set of traditional flamenco recorded in Spain in 1958 on Hispavox. Comes with a huge booklet that explains the nuances of how each Cante was put together. Virtually unplayed and found on a back bookshelf of a thrift store dusty and unloved.

I got turned on to The Silk Road Project today, and listened to the 1st CD of A Musical Caravan this morning as I'm home sick from work, probably for the rest of the week. CD 2 will probalby be played tomorrow morning.

I guess that qualifies it as "World Music." Yo-Yo Ma is part of the ensamble. I dug it.
