It was a classic radio station table. A heavier tracking Stanton or Pickering?

I have used it with a basic Ortofon SPU conical, a mono SPU, as well as a Denon DL-102 (mono.) The ATP-12T is probably the cheapest and easiest to source arm that will match well with a SPU. I haven't tried it, but I suspect a Shure N35C would be a good economical choice.

How about either of these I have lying around?

That's a heavy arm, about 21 grams effective mass so you want a low compliance cartridge. Look on Vinyl Engine for the specs on the carts to see if they are in the ball park. I suspect not.
belyin gave a few good suggestions. An older Shure broadcast cartridge would work fine. Very common combination with that arm in radio stations.
That Gates when restored and set in a high mass plinth in combination with that arm is going to be awesome.
Not sure if your an idler drive fan but you have the parts to make a nice high end unit.

I am a fan of idler drives. Have an older Russco with RB 300 arm on it. Need to get a plinth made for this massive table and work on adjusting the speed. Unit is running a little fast.

Shure M7d specs:

Channel Separation: More than 20 db at 1000 c.p.s. ~ecommended Load Impedance: 47,000 ohms (per channel) for Stereo. 22,000 ohms for Monaural (see connections). Higher values will produce a slight increase in high frequency response. Stylus: Number N7D. Radius .0007" (0.018mm) Diamond. Compliance: VERTICAL 1 3.5 x 10-4 centimeters HORIZONTAL 1 per dyne Tracking Force: 4 to 7 grams (5 grams optimum). Inductance: 420 millihenries. D. C. Resistance: 280 ohms. Terminals: 4 terminals. Here is a link to building a plinth for your Russco. Might give you or someone that you know some ideas. It's not easy to do right as you can see if you read the thread. The good thing is Andy has offered templates of the cutouts for the multi layers, that is very time consuming to come up with.

As far as carts go I favor the Denon DL-103 because it's very musical. I use an AU-320 SUT into a MM phono stage. A very enjoyable combination. I can't give much advise on the other cartridges except from what I've read.

My russco came with a well built plinth. This Gates not so much! Any recommendations whom can build out a plinth for this monster!

Good luck, I approached Andy and he turned me down. He really only does wood working projects for himself and close friends. He is also disabled and projects can take a while, it depends on how he feels on any given day. We struck up a conversation and I bribed him with a piece of gear that he wanted. LOL. Lucky for me he accepted.
I had no idea of how skilled he is and after I suggested he do a thread about building the plinth I am totally in awe at his skills. A master carpenter! I am truly a lucky guy.
I know there are a few good woodworkers on this forum, I would search around and see if you could barter a deal with someone. Also if you can find someone that has done a layered plinth already and has templates for the layers, it would be a massive help to who ever eventually builds it. As Andy pointed out, it is a very time consuming part of the process.
That Gates deserves the best that you can invest in it. There is information scattered on the web that will help guide you.
