Yeah, but not 'top three of all time'. The 7s were a 'best buy' when they were new (as were the EPI 100s) but not in the same league as, say, Altec A-5s or KLH model Nines or Dayton-Wrights or the bigger ads speakers (to name a few).

I concur with the IMF people, the International Ref. Std. Professional was the best box I ever heard. Lots of amp needed, though.

The loudest I ever had were Altec 601's stuffed into EV Aristocrat enclosures-- they probably didn't measure worth a damn but very alive and dynamic with my Dynaco tube front end, filled up my old apartment AND my friend's loft with as much music as you could stand.

But now, just as a subsystem for when I'm in the study, I have a pair of Pioneer PIM5 fullranges in factory cabinets. Even connected to a $2 RatShack 10watt solid state amp, they're too good. I can't work when they're playing, too involving, too lifelike, too musical. These things only handle 3 watts, obviously not from any "audiophile" piece of gear, but they have something I've never heard anywhere else.

Of course the Altec A5/A7

Then you can't beat Khorns..

My next pick is not be due to popularity, or that many of them made, but a FANTASTIC speaker looks and sound wise is why it's on my TOPS list..

The RCA theatre speakers, LC9A... One of the few speakers I would consider paying a mint for..

Now just a matter of liquidating the 20+ pairs not in my short list that I still own. I went through at least 40 pairs before settling on these 3. I can't imagine the next 40 pairs will see the list change by much.

I'd love to hear those Pioneers with a little 1 - 5 watt Single Ended tube amp. . 45, 2A3 . . even a 6V6 or 6BQ5 would make those little guys sing :yes:

why? because thats what i have now lol. might change in a month or two lol.

I just finished the final step in refoaming a pair of Dahlquist DQM5s a friend gave me. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to hook them up and give them a try. I only had one other person respond when I originally asked about these on AK. I'm currently using several different setups in different rooms. How are the DQMs going to stack up against my Advent 4s, or my Altec/Lansings? I listen to Cambridge Soundworks Model 6s in the office and I think they are sweet. I imagine the DQM5s will be in that category? I'm anxious to hear them. If I don't care for them, at least the price was right. They're good looking speakers with cool stands. What speakers do you think yours were comparable to?

Own all three and if I had to pick one it would probably be Dahlquist, if it had a little more bass it would be the perfect speakers!
 
Titan,

Have never met another person who owned ellipsons. How do you like yours? I've never been able to find any information on mine... They are ellipson orphee, 3 way design, ported at the bottom, very ehavy. Extremely good tight bass, similar to the ADS line so so mids and highs.

I'm with you there :banana: My first real speakers were Wharfedale W-60's and I finally got a pair of W-60E's from Audiopeasant a few months ago to bring back old memories. :thmbsp:
They may not be the equal of the Advents (I also have a pair of Smaller Advents) but they're wood veneer, and bring back old memories.

I'll hafta add a vote for the Advents..the 5002/5012 in particular are sweet sounding..and good looking.

Nobody's voted for the ADS line...I'd love to hear some, and am looking for something like the 810 or similar.

Also very fond of my Infinity RS-2001's..great sound in a small package.

Well I was reading through this thread and saw Mimus 7's mentioned a couple of times and as fate would have it I found a pair of 7W's today at a local thrift for $10.
SQ with classical music is very good and they do highs and mids extremely, well especially for their size. I think matched with a sub this would make a very good system for a small room or bedroom set-up.

What years did RS make these?
