Stuck in the 70's
I've always been a big fan of Dahlquist, My DQM5's rocked and of course the DQ10's too. Just picked up a pair of JBL 4310's and have to say I'm impressed with the clarity and punch!

just for fun I'll restrict myself to wish-list, cost-no-object speakers I've never owned or even heard:
EV Patrician IV's (I heard some bass bins alone running full range, but never the whole speaker system)
Quad ESL 57 or 63
JBL 250ti

Fergettit! Of the numerous big boy's I have there's no way I can pass judgment until I move into much bigger space (I'm in a 750 sf apartment).
But this thread has really helped me (hurt me) in developing my wish list.

The jury's still out, but my recently acquired KEF 105s may have ended my eternal SpeakerQuest. The nicest sounding speaker that I have tried so far. :thmbsp:

I am surprised that in this thread not ONE mention of Kenwoods, Cerwin Vegas, or Marantzs! Vegas were responsible for one of the highest SPL dB levels on the planet with their "Earthquake" Cabs. premiered in 1974 as sound system for the opening of that movie. Also Kenwood LS-408B's are the best Kenwoods that were ever made. They can dance with the best of 'em! Well, mine can anyways, lol! So without further adeu: my top 3 are:
1. Cerwin Vega D-9's
2. Kenwood LS-408B's
3. Marantz HD 770's
If you look at my thread on my Pioneer SX 1980 you can hear an example of my Kenwood LS-408B's taking a licking from it and keep on ticking with more than 270 watts beating at them with NO CLIPPING or distortion whatsoever, lol!

I believe those Mach 2's I listened to for ten years have probably shaped my tastes, but.....I really like my Leak Sandwiches,KLH Model 5's and especially dig the Wharfedale W70D Mark 2's. The Wharfedales make a piano sound like a piano.

I have to put in my vote for the Altec Lansing 873A and 2873A Barcelona. 15-inch woofer with 18 lb magnet and 4-inch edge-wound voice coil, and 25-inch cast aluminum sectoral horn. 2873A includes the 770A Electronic Crossover/Biamplifier putting 60 watts to the woofer and 30 watts to the horn. All this in a furniture-grade walnut cabinet. Almost $1000 each in 1974 (that would be $4600 in today's dollars).
