Tuners?

I bought a Yamaha T-85 via eBay a couple of days ago. Hopefully it should be here by the end of next week. If reports are true, it may become my main audiophile tuner.

A couple months ago I retired the Yamaha 610II and replaced it with a Kenwood KT-54. This is a lower mid-level Kenny digital tuner but I'm thrilled with its sound quality and sensitivity. It's quite an over achiever...

The Yamaha went to a friend who is just getting started with vintage gear.

Hey Doug, I currently run a modded (per TIC) KT-7500, and should be bringing a TU-517 into the fold in a few days. In your opinion, should the 'Sui be competitive with the hot-rodded Kenny? BTW, I also use an Audio Dynamics T-200 with new output op-amps and bypassed output caps. It is indistinguishable, sonically, from the Kenny. If you can land one...look out! :D

I just came across this and another post. Did you ever find a schematic or SM for the T-200? I recently added sockets for the IF filters for mine, but would be interested in your mods etc.

Only have four they are,
Toshiba ST-665
Toshiba ST-420
Rotel RT-1060
Denon 550 [ can't remember the letters, five dollars at Goodwill ]
Toshiba ST-420 looks kinda of odd in a good way, made me buy the amp that matches it the Sb-420.

Mainly using Sony XDR-F1HD because it's the only tuner (out of many) able to receive classical KPAC without birdie. Have that piped throughout house on Sonos. Got full audio output modification and others from RadioXTuners. Not sure I really need anything else. But also have Kenwood 600T (nice sound and nice calibrated signal meter), MR 78 (the narrowest super narrow and nice knob), Yamaha TX-1000U (nice sound, decent DX), Kenwood KT-8300 (nice overall but not as quiet as later designs), Fisher KM-61, Sony 5000F, Sansui 9900, and more.

I still have quite a lot tuners:

Ack, I guess it's been a while since I've checked this thread...

What I did to my T-200 is to replace the output and LPF op-amps (3 total) with socketed LME49860, jumpered across the output coupling caps (very little DC upstream), and replaced the interstage coupling caps with audio-grade caps. It made a very nice difference, it's now the best sounding tuner I've ever owned.

And no, I never did find manuals for the tuner.

I've got a birdie problem with the classical station here, WDPR 88.1. Just out of curiosity, what frequency is KPAC on? Do you have a theory of why they are bird-ridden?

I am paring them down but I have these.

Sansui TU-717
Yamaha CT-1010
HK Citation 23
Kenwood KT-7500
Sony XDR-F1HD
DBX TX1

Nice your avatar, :thmbsp:movies of tati are extraordinary :thmbsp:ans so human.

I agree! I love all his films and his philosophy of life, and the natural humanity always present in all of his characters and in the way he found to tell his stories. Besides, I met him as an 8 year old boy in the city of Mar del Plata, in Argentina, at a movie festival. My parents took me there and wanted to meet him, and he shaked hands with me! He was tall, friendly and shy and left in me an impression that I treasure among the best memories of my life.

PS: sorry for the disgression!
