Tunes at work: what gear are you running?

Yamaha CR-240 > Minimus 7s, I keep it tuned to 91.9 WFPK

picture.php

Some of us have to "actually work" haven't got time for tunes.:D

I'll play along

Celestion DL10's with JBL 127a woofers and silk dome tweeters. Original drivers suffered at the hands (knife) of our son years ago. STA-860 fed by an iPod just barely visible in the lower right of the image.

Probably looks messier than it is. Keeps me quite content and beats the heck out of FM.

This system is likely to be replaced with HPM-40's (late models) and Pioneer SX-680 this coming weekend. Whether they become more permanent is to be decide after the audition. If they do the STA goes to garage duty, which is not a bad thing and the DL10's will likely be sold.

Sony CDP-670 CD player from the late '80's
Pioneer SX-626 receiver, purchased new by me in 1973
Polk Audio RTi A3 speakers

Yamaha Pianocraft , with XM to save my sanity. My boss loves music as well, so I am a very lucky bastard.

I listen to Pandora through my iPhone and earbuds. Sounds nice when the earbuds stay in. iPhone earbuds don't stay in place too good.

Which grocery store John? I work in one too and muzak is gone, now it's the real songs.Brittany Spears,Pink all the greats and now we've added country:puke:

Acme Click in Ohio, "The Grocery Store" (that was the name) and Hannafords in Richmond, VA. I bagged, then cashiered, then ran the service desk, then became the book keeper. And then one day my advertising internship went through, and I walked. That was over 10 years ago now and I don't miss anything but my coworkers. One of my customers actually hired me for my first advertising job...so always respect the customer!

Nineties JVC midi-system with spinny-control-panel and lights galore. Actually has too much bass coming from it's 2 6-1/2 woofers. Everything is broken so someone's phone is always plugged into it. Sits on top of the microwaves in the middle of my kitchen.

To it's credit it's been kickin' out the jams for 6 months and hasn't quit.

Kitchen radios in my experience never last terribly long... Lord knows I've cobbled some together!

well right now i work in a crowded phone room with 150 people talking all around me in little cubicles, so nothing. :(

now, a few years back, i worked in a furniture restoration shop, i was there for about a year., one day i found a beat up old tube zenith console in the trash around the corner from my work, i drug it back to the shop, and put it in my workspace as a workbench!, it was great! i could play it as loud as i wanted cause i was in the very back of a big brick warehouse, and my co-workers were mostly homeless drunk day-laborers and loved classic rock, the console worked great but it had water damage and was too rough to restore so it didnt really matter if it got more messed up!, good times those were, in the back of the warehouse, smokin grass, blastin led zepplin from the cobra-matic record changer, gettin stoned and piss drunk with the bums wile re-finishing antique furniture, i miss those days.. great job for a kid like i was at the time.

I don't currently have an 'at work' but I used to listen to an '80s boombox, then a Sony all-in-one someone left there and until recently I had my T-amp, a JVC media player and several sets of speakers there, until I settled on small Yamahas as my speakers of choice.

I would love to use my own system in my classroom. However, our campus does not allow outside electrical devices unless they are approved by the district. It would be nice for me to have a nice setup with a nice TT and tape deck, especially since I teach music. The most unfortunate is that I have to use this:
4eae8770-fd05-4330-8be3-503e559b9a82.jpg
. I can't stand this stereo at all: it's way too bassy even with the boost off and eq on flat, the CD player takes an eternity to load and there is no dobly on the crummy tape deck.

In my office at work, I have a Pioneer PDM-40 CDP and a Marantz 2245 feeding a pair of original Infinity Modulus speakers. I mostly listen to FM, but occasionally I get sick of the drivel and have to pop in some CD's.

When I'm doing my main work it's either me or my students making the tunes, so a system is moot. When I'm working on restoring a piano in the shop it's the opposite, non-stop music. I rotate most of my secondary gear through there and it's where I test out new pieces and repairs. Currently it's a Marantz 4300 receiver, Denon DCD-1520 CDP, Klipsche KG4s. The system sounds great and keeps my head functioning. The problem with working on a piano is that if you do something once you have to do it 87 more times before you're done.....

I've got a single Ohm model L in my office away from from home. A less than ideal Sony receiver and my laptop as the source. I found the single "L" and couldn't let it go to waste. I refoamed it and it sounds great...though I long for it's mate. I only listen to music at work on Fridays, too many phone calls and interruptions any other day, so it does fine.

Out of curiosity, which district in Houston do you teach at and what type of music?

I work from home 3 days a week so my home office setup is: Pioneer SX-727, PL-115D, Original Large Advents and a newer Panasonic DVD player that I use for CD's.

When I have to actually go into my office building, the setup is pretty simple. I use a Lepai T-Amp that I got on ebay for $20 and a pair of Infinity SL10's I had laying around at the house. I usually just play jazzradio.com at the office as background. The setup actually sounds pretty decent.

I work in a cubicle with lots of colleagues, but happily the air system also pumps in "white noise" so that phone conversations and such don't carry so far. When I put in 25 years of service, they gave me one of those units (Sony) with the stacked mini-components and two small speakers. I listened to it for a while, and wondered why it sounded so awful. I then read the "manual" and realized it was rated at 10% THD! So I brought in some vintage stuff from home, and currently listen to a Phillips 591 amplifier (from 1971), a Yamaha T-500 tuner (mid-'80s), and two Nikko speakers (6" woofers and I upgraded the tweeters). I also have a cord to play tunes off my MP3 if I wish.

The music makes me more productive and calmer, and I have never received any complaints from colleagues (even when I have asked them outright). The only problem is that I continually resist the urge to crank things up when a particularly tasty tune is on!

I decided to revive a hibernating thread instead of starting a new one on the same topic.

I run a Nakimichi TA-1A with a pair of Klipsch KSB 3.1's. I threw the CS-101 on for a hoot. The Klipsch and the and the Audio Control CS-101 were pieces I had laying around not really getting used. I decided to set something up at work so I picked up the Nak. I didn't want to put anything super nice there, just something that sounds good and can handle being played 5 days a week 8+ hours a day. Lately 6-7 days a week, but thankfully xmas has passed. :) I manage this section of the company and my team enjoys having tunes in the background. I pretty much just stream music through it, generally picking a song or album to play first thing, and then letting it run off of that for the rest of the day. I always try to switch up genres and artists so it's not just the same thing all the time. I always take requests and ask if there is anything they would like to hear.

Everyone who come through our area always comments that we've got the best music playing...even the owner and the president.:)

I have an Onkyo 301/501 combo with a set of ADS 300s on my work bench shelf. I tune in XM radio on my computer and run it into the aux.
Both myself and my colleague next to me like the same kind of music, so it works well to pass the hours.
