Tung sol KT120 replaement tubes

HI,

what are your suggestions on tube replacements for the tung sol kt120 tubes. Would like to try a different tube to see how it sounds. Or where do people go on line to buy different tubes

There is only one company making the KT120, there are no other brands to try. If you want to change the sound of your amp, I would recommend changing the pre or driver tubes. Maybe the new KT-150 will work and be better sonic wise.

Three, actually ...

- TungSol, of course.

- Shuguang has also entered the battle with a redesign. Main difference seems to be the side getter is missing.

- Psvane, which looks like a Shuguang and is probably a rebrand. It's also missing the side getter. Psvane has a history with Chinese tubes and also has a very rigorous selection process so you can probably expect better results than with the "generic" TungSol issue.

I've been using TungSol KT120's in my amp and really like them. Deep and strong, yet detailed on the bottom, and good resolution all the way to the top. They do take a bit more push to bias up properly, so be sure your amp's iron can handle them.

PS ... these tubes all are a bit much for a standard 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier. I upgraded to a NOS Mullard GZ37 to drive them properly.
