Turntable collection finally unboxed!

Interesting, I was at IKEA last night and looked at this same set. Looks fantastic.

I cannot thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to show this to my wife.

My dozen turntables seem seem kinda normal now...

Slightly off topic, but what's the focus of your car hobby?

I'm planning on showing this post to my wife to make myself seem more normal in the morning. I appreciate your support.

Also, to steer it back to topic, do you feel these shelves will support some of the larger 70's receivers like a Sansui QRX-9001?

In addition, as a side note, AK is an Audio Hobbyist forum and many hobbyists, including myself, collect audio gear! This seems to be the ONLY hobby forum I have seen where comments exist that insinuate it odd to collect.

Pioneer SX receivers

You have an amazing collection of receivers and speakers too. How would you compare the sound of the SX 1980 SX 1250 and SX1050 to each other. I have the SX-1050 and wonder about getting the others, if there's much difference. I love the deep powerful bass that these Pioneers put out.

If I were to sell them all and keep just one it would probably be the Pioneer PL-61. I haven't run across a Garrard 301 or a Thorens 124 but if I did and if they were affordable I wouldn't pass either one up. All of the ones that I have I picked up at either thrift stores or off CL and most were under $100. The Empire 598 I paid alot for but the 488 I paid less than $100 for it. It is on an original Empire board that was made for console use but I am wanting to build a plinth for it. I picked up an Empire plinth on ebay but it's too big for it.

How would you compare the PL-61 to the PL-41 sound?

Thats pretty cool. Looks nice on that shelf.

I have about 7 turntables and know how hard it is to let go of the ones you really like.

But whats your plans, do you plan on letting them justbsit there with no use or are you gonna give one to a nephew , neighbor, friend, sell etc....

I find it curious that some people don't understand "collection" as a concept. There are any number of justifications for amassing a number of any particular thing including no particular reason whatsoever beyond liking them. Who says he has to have plans for any of them? What if I collect stamps? Would people suggest that I sure must like to mail letters, or plan on sending a whole bunch of postcards some day?

That is so awesome.:thmbsp:
I also plan to show my wife this photo. my three TT's will no longer be under scrutiny.

hmmm.... top shelf filled with TT's, second and third shelf for low watt receivers, fill the rest with amps, EQ's tape decks.....oh, the possibilities:D

This is a pic from my old house showing my use of the Ikea IVAR shelves for my other audio gear and they hold up quite well. Ikea has changed the IVAR shelves on the ends where the weight is supported to plastic from the metal and wood ends that these are built like so I don't know how those will hold up over time.

I haven't really done any comparisons to any of the turntables or receivers. I feel that everyone's hearing is different and their likes are different so to me a comparison isn't really of any help when it comes to sound. I could do a comparison for someone if they wanted to hear the difference in person which to me is the only way to tell which one sounds better or more to their liking. Both SX-1250s I picked up with problems and the SX-1980 should get a recap before any comparisons are done. I have someone in mind for the recap but he is backed up right now.

Well, that surely answers the question they can hold some weight! :thmbsp: At least the older design, if they shifted to some plastic hardware, then maybe not quite as much.

I also like this design. While this specific setup may not hold the weight, I am thinking maybe I can build something similar that is more robust. I like how the shelves extend beyond the supports structure so you have more side view of the items on display. Of course, I wouldn't need them to tilt like the center shelves are shown here.

I only have three turntables but I do have 10 power amps. It is fun collecting, the hunt is almost as much fun as the purchase. I like how you displayed them as well, nice collection.

Ha. I did the same thing. Yelled for her to come and check this collection out. "See dear, I am really not out of control..."

Tarl that is a pretty serious amount of gear

congrats

ps I read all those Gor books when I was a kid. always liked the cover art too

I see both sides of the coin of hoarding/collecting. On one hand it's a shame not all of those are in use, but on the other it's a bad ass collection I wouldn't mind having. I love seeing collections like this, but it wouldn't work out for me, I've got two systems and six tables, I feel bad I can't use them all.

Did you move from Denver because you dried up the market??? People of Indiana best up their game :D

The banner above says ALL AUDIO, NO ATTITUDE that's a two way street. If someone says something you don't like, you don't need to turn around and do exactly what they did to try and correct it, let it go.
