Getting to know some 'new to me' MA Silver RS6's. Got them for a good price across the river. Some scuffs and missing the feet, but all drivers and grills in good shape. The gent was selling them for his son who had abandoned them in his basement.
I was a little hesitant because the reviews were a little mixed and some had said they could be a little strident. I'm not finding that at all. Very smooth with delicious mid-range. I do wish they went a little deeper, but they sound deeper than I know they actually go. And, I rent so it's probably for the better. I'm thinking the poor reviews I read were likely from people with either un-broken in speakers, or poorly matched components.
These are doing duty in my living room being fed by a rebuilt Hafler DH-200, Aragon 24k pre., Pioneer PL-L1000 tt, and a Counterpoint DA-10 dac for both streaming and redbook.
Already talked to June at Avro int'l and have replacement feet assemblies on the way. I was really pleasantly surprised at the price. Just under $60 for all 8 including shipping. Let's hope they're correct. Invoice states "RS/RX/SUB Foot Assembly (complete w/spikes)".
This is my 2nd set of MA speakers. 1st is a pair of vintage Monitor 9's from the 80's? Doing bedroom duty on a restored HK430. The tweeters were a little hot. Some strategic 3/16" wool felt diffraction pads helped a lot and made them much more tolerable. These little speakers are interesting because they are Acoustic Suspension, but have thin walls and virtually no stuffing (only foam lining the walls). Guessing they are following the BBC LS3/5 school of thought. Whatever, it works surprisingly well. I moved out some Epicure Model 5's for these. Only thing was they were missing the grills when I bought them for $75 off of CL.
