V15-VxMR & Jico in STEREOPHILE

The october 2011 stereophile on page 29 talks about the Shure V15VxMR and the Jico SAS stylus for it.
Michael Fremer in "ANALOG CORNER" said:...
"After spending a week listening to it (the stock shure & stylus) in the VPI classic 3 tt, I've come to respect it far more than before, though I've always thought it was pretty good. It resolved detail and spaciousness (contrary to the reputation of MMs), and it's response sounded remarkably flat, with deep, taut bass and extended highs."
He then says of the Jico SAS sold by LPGear for that shure:...
"The Jico SAS for the V15VxMR body is apparently better but didn't have time for it to break-in as of this writing."
He also said that "If you own a V15VxMR, don't let it lie around gathering dust because there is a great replacement stylus now being made for it!"

Lets keep our eyes on stereophile for more on Jico & the SAS in the future.

Well that endorsement should make prices rises even higher than they are now at that famous auction site...............on V15VxMR's:scratch2:

Been waiting for a professional review of the SAS replacement stylus for the V15VxMR
I no longer subscribe to Stereophile Magazine, hope you can post Michael Fremer's comments when he does another review after the break-in period.
 
If a cart doesn't cost at least a $grand$ Fremer really isn't interested. He's just throwing MM cart people a bone.
 
My V-15vmr is one of my favorite carts. Depending on the arm its attached to, I like it as much or more than my high output Benz Glider. I'm surprised he made those comments on the VPI Classic, though. Perhaps the xMR is lower compliance than the vmr? I found the VMR to be particularly dead sounding on the VPI Classic. It really opened up dynamically on a lighter arm. I run it on my Mitsubishi LT-30 now, and my Marantz TT-15s1.
 
Iv'e been enjoying the xMR with JICO SAS combo for the last year.It's a great combo as are the other SAS JICO for the V-15 carts.
 
Regarding a demand price increase - thank God he didn't have the better sounding V15-VMR. :thmbsp:

It took Stereophile 14 yrs to discovery this great cartridge and over 30yr for the VMR?
Hi Fi salons never admitted Shure made great cartridges in the 80's, recommending Grado and hi end MC's instead.
 
The JICO SAS for my V15 Type 4 should be arriving tomorrow. The original stylus is still good, so I look forward to comparing them once the SAS breaks in a bit.
 
HiFi salons couldn't admit Shure made great cartridges. Shure cartridges were too main stream.

Can't have THAT.

Shure did all the V15's right (IMHO). Even their less cartridges were high quality. I am surprised that Stereophile sould praise them however. I gave up reading that mag the day I read that changing the fuse in the primary of a power supply of an am had a positive impact on the sound of the amp. Now I only pay attention to avoid the price spikes that their reviews generate.

I know there has been discussion abiut this in the past but has anybody ever concluded that the V15RS is the same as the V15MRxv? Just wondering if I can apply this review to my cartridge.
 
Everything that has been measured about the V15RS indicates it is the same as the V15VxMR.

The only thing still to be measured is magnet locations on the brass shank - which would definitively determine whether the poles are in the same location or not.
