Hi Mark,
Lots of audio stuff to look at around here. I'm not real familliar with the new audio stores in the area being as how I'm not really in the market at the mo. But you might start with Freds sound of music down on 37th and Hawthorne. Funky little audio store, been there for ever. Unless you can find parking on the street it's a royal pita to get to. While there you can pick up the little guide to local independant record stores. Handy little pamphlet. Be advised the place is smack dab in the center of the Hawthorne district. That's the epicenter from which all the pacific northwest wierdness comes from.
As for record stores Music Millenium is not far away on 31st and Burnside. I like a little record store called Sonic Recollections. Pretty much right in between the other two on 27th and Belmont. You'll see it in the guide but you might also take a look at Mississippi records. They used to be on N. Mississippi Ave but moved recently a few blocks up on Albina. Mississippi Ave is kind of funny it's like a total hipster oasis in the middle of "the bad place" north portland.
Also if you're into it the Portland Jazz Festival starts today and runs through the 24th or so I think. More info at pdxjazz.com . Otherwise it's really boring around here, you'll hate it. It rains all the time

For amazing scenery a drive down the Columbia River Gorge can't be beat and that's from someone who lives on some of the most beautiful coastline in the country. A Google search will reveal no shortage of record stores on both sides of the Willamette River and a visit to Powell's Book's on Burnside Downtown is always worth the effort. As far as food goes, Clay's Smokehouse Grill on S.E. Division can't be beat for Barbeque and if you are downtown at lunchtime, try the Virginia Cafe on S.W. 10th.
