Value of Sansui 5000a Receiver?

What would be a good price for one of these in used working condition? Anything in particular to look out for that might be a common issue?

I recently paid 300 (local sale) for a nice one, with a sweet wooden case. The troublesome boards were already done. The dial pointer bulb was the only light out. I felt good about the deal. Hope that helps.

Yes, the driver boards. Pull the cover off and they're right on top. The original boards (1040) had a tendency to overheat and fry the unit. The newer (F-6013) took care of that problem. Sansui did a recall so there's a good chance they have the newer ones.

Don't know what current prices are, but it is a sweet sounding receiver. Good FM reception too.

I think what Domimax wrote above is right on. I think that's a pretty good deal these days for a local sale. I guess it all depends where you buy and what you're getting exactly.

Sansui, at least according to Wikipedia, is out of business. I think the brand is used on some televisions but they are not manufacturing.

Is there still any official parts source? I was wondering as I am considering one of their vintage tuners.

Well there was a TU-X1 on Ebay but now it is gone. The seller said it needed repair but was vague about the issues and did not answer questions. I hope the person who won the auction gets a good outcome!

I would easily pay $500.00 for this unit, but luckily, didn't have to. Just picked one up at an estate sale for 100 clams! No worries, as it already had the 6013 upgraded boards (was so relieved to see those). I suppose if the old boards were in them, that would give you some wiggle room. However, if the old boards have not caused a problem in the last 62 years, they probably won't. This Sansui 5000A was mfg in July of 1970. I have a lot of vintage receivers, Marantz, Heathkit, Kenwood, Realistic, Eico and this Sansui just may be the BEST sounding of them all. Incredible power at 55 watts a channel. It has a pure, clean, punchy, crisp yet warm sound. GO FOR IT!

The F-1040 boards are not that hard to rebuild and it’s pretty cheap. Sometimes you can buy newly manufactured F-6013 boards as well.

I just found one of these at the recycling box in my hometown. Beautiful and functions the way it is supposed to. I'm one of those guys that never find anything for free. Especially audio. But there you go. Plays very nice. I'm loving the sound from it!!

Thank you for sharing this @rickb119! I know it has been 4 years but I just got the 5000A and it does have the F-6013 board so your post took away my stress; learning after buying the receiver, that it may have a board that might go bad.

Love it! My other Sansui is the 771. Had the Solid State 5000 which I sold and regret it. The only issue is the FM light on the 5000A & need to investigate if the bulb is bad or further (hopefully not) complicated issues. Need to get and read the service manual; I think I can tell how to remove the bulb housing but better to read the service manual first.

Ok so there is an issue with FM reception. This is not something I’m skilled on so it is now with my tech to evaluate what is wrong and what the fix would be. I like my equipment to be in full working condition and do listen to FM so hopefully this will not be an expensive repair.
