Value on Fully Restored Sansui Eight Deluxe

I have my eye on a Sansui Eight Deluxe for sale in my area . It has been fully restored and recapped and is in pretty good shape cosmetically (7.5/10). What would be considered a good price for this unit?

A fair price would likely be around $250 - a good price would be less than that.

If it's fully restored, I'd say more like $500-600 given the complexity of restoration and rarity of the 8D. I was quoted $400 to do a restore on mine, so discounting that for a DIY case.

$250-300 unrestored is probably about right.

Above is market/fair pricing IMO.

$250 restored would be a major score, to me...

Working on vintage gear tends to be a labor of love, and the going rate of $300-500 per unit for comprehensive receiver restoration doesn't really pay the technician the going rates for bench work.

Of course, the biggest questions are who performed the work, what quality of work they did, how much they did, and what parts they used. Without more information, it's tough to decide whether this Sansui Eight Deluxe is more or less valuable than an unrestored example.

That is so true. I do not get it. At 1/2 or less the cost of a rebuild, most buyers will buy factory stock that is likely to fail sooner than later and most likely will not sound as good as a rebuilt item.
