This is it. "The Holy Grail". The biggest, baddest thing ever to come out of Japan. Bigger than the Pioneer SX-1980, badder than the Marantz 2600. Retailed for $1900.00 in 1979. Built in two pieces. Consisting of a preamp/tuner section and a separate forced air cooled amp section, the assembled monster is stunning.
The preamp tuner section features IF band selection of wide or narrow for both AM and FM. Dual phono inputs with front panel selectable loading control. Triple tone controls and a third tape loop. The dial scale and meters are all super sized.
The amp section features true mono block design with TWO massive toroidal power transformers and associated filter caps. Binding post connections for two switchable sets of speakers and an automatic temperature controlled cooling fan.

You'll hear people refer to a vintage receiver sometimes and say "You don't see those around very often". Usually it's hyperbole. With the monster Sansui G-33000 it's not hyperbole. You REALLY don't see these very often. It would be hard to argue that this isn't the holy grail for Sansui collectors much less vintage receiver collectors in general. I recently wrote a post on the holy grail for Marantz collectors which is the Marantz 2600. One of those rare beasts recently sold for just over $6000. Well, the Sansui G-33000 has that one beat as one just sold for $7700 USD! The most recent was, as I mentioned above, for $7700 (USD) in very nice working condition. That is probably pretty close to the market value right now.

must have cost quite a bit. I saw the price before the auction had started (4 browns) but didn't see the final result. Plus the taxes and fees on top of that... beautiful piece though..
