Vintage Discrete Recievers

Would like to compile a list for Discrete Recievers? I know most were op-amp but there were some discrete. My Sony STR V4 for one and I think the Yamaha CR-2040 was in that line up as well. Any more?

Pioneer sx-xx50?

Sansui 8080, 9090?

The Pioneer X50 series uses integrated circuits in their tuner sections, and if I remember correctly, also in the phono section of the lower-numbered units.

The Sansui 9090 uses integrated circuits in its tuner and tone/preamp sections...and phono section (if, again, I recall correctly). I would assume same is true for the 8080.

Discrete outputs, or completely discrete? Don't think the V4 qualifies. 60xx, and 7045 were the last fully discrete receivers that I know of. Most of the 70xx had opamps in the phono and tone amp sections. Later models started using STK type power amps

Pioneer SX-x2x series from 1972 use integrated circuits in tuner section.

The Sansui 2000X and 5000X (1971/72) incorporate integrated circuits.

Well the Yammie CR-2040 has 14 IC chips in it and the Sony has 3 or 4 so I guess you’re talking about just the power amp output section then? Like I said, long list.

What I am trying to convey here is that for example the Sony STR V4 is the only one in that series that is dicrete the rest of that series used opamps just like the Yamaha CR 2040 was the only one that was discrete in that series and didnt use that chip that eventually failed in the rest of that series that is still unreplaceable to this day.

Thanks for "conveying" that info. That does not however make your initial request for a comprehensive list of receivers that use discrete outputs (or did you mean fully discrete....you never did clarify) the least bit practical as that list would be too long for anyone to supply.

Are you referring to stereo receivers? I would say that a large majority of them have discrete ouputs.

I don't think of opamps as final output devices, as their purpose is as a voltage amplifier.

I would also say that most stereo receivers produced from the mid-70s onward use opamps or other types of integrated circuits somewhere in their topology...most often in the tuner and preamp sections.

Perhaps you are referring to receivers that use integrated ouput modules (for example, STK modules) vs those using discrete outputs? If so, it would be easier to make a list of the receivers that use them vs those that do not...it would be much shorter.

Probably easier to just look up the receiver(s) in which you are interested to find out what they use.

The list of receivers with discrete outputs is a very long one.

@Cylontymany

I think there may be some confusion. Some amps have discrete outputs but make use of opamps or other ICs elsewhere. Other amps are "all discrete" meaning no opamps or ICs anywhere. Some amps use SKT's, or similar, for outputs. Lots of possibilities. I suspect that you are seeking a list of "all discrete" amplifiers? :dunno:

Maybe I am confused! What I am After is like I mentioned above. The Sony STR V4 is different than the rest of that particular line as well as the Yamaha CR-2014 in that line.
