It will be interesting to see how much these sell for.

I would normally expect in the 10 to 15K range right off the bat, but two things will hold this auction back.

One is the amazing folly of not having fifteen to twenty photos to view, composed and taken by a pro in good lighting.

The second is the prima vera blonde veneer, which is the least desirable veneer these came in. I may be wrong, but the Asian market LOVES good photos.

Personally, I like the blonde wood. The photos are crap!

20k an hour in. They look really nice and clean. I think the finish looks pretty cool. It would be nice to see them side by side. Some nice figuring in the veneer.

Now this bidding is NUTS!

I expected a tremendous last minute run up, but not in the first hour!?

Very nice speakers. The Japanese just love JBL Hartsfield Speakers.

Thanks for the address...I'll be watching for fun!

Retracted bids ??

I'm really surprised the bidding has gone this high so early. You'd think that people of this bidding caliber would wait near the end. Bidding now only raises the price early, allowing for more upward movement. Perhaps it is people bidding from overseas that plan to spend a boatload anyway (so why not put your mark on it now), or they're of the impression that it is best to be high bidder whenever possible.

[hwirt]

This has been an unusual auction; the bidding jumped up quickly to $20,000 then incrementally to $20,322 over several days. It will be interesting to see if there is another surge in bidding price at the end. The prices on these old JBL systems has really skyrocketed (like gold) in recent years.

Can't remember the guy, but some AK'er last year snagged a lone Hartsfield for something absurdly low, like $140. It was at some local antique/junk shop. In very good condition too. Seller had no clue of the value, just needed to get rid of this big beast taking up so much room.

Yep, it was flipper right here in Virginia. Saw it for sale recently on Ebay bringing over $10k: http://ebayitem.com/260832565579

[myu701]

Wow... a free $10k. Must've felt really nice.

Personally, I would have hung onto that speaker for a while, getting a chance to listen to it fully. Selling it on the upswing of the economy would probably have netted a few more thousand.
