Not only would I not buy new gear, I wouldn't buy new cars either. Or new houses. Maybe a new tablet, though -- I keep hurting my fingers on the slate touchscreen.

I have followed Paul McGowan`s music room build since it`s inception, and if I had deep enough pockets, I would probably do something along these lines (except I would like a larger space to work with). His choice of equipment has great appeal to me, it`s enough to satisfy my wants and needs, without being ridiculously over the top.

I would stay vintage.

I have been playing with some nice high end high power stuff from the last decade and although very nice, it just has no soul.

I would have more than one room with gear in it. I have always wished to have in my house the best vintage system in one room and the best current in another room. I would also do all solid state and all tube in two or more rooms

Short answer.........absolutely, positively, without doubt or hesitation, on no uncertain terms. YES:jump:

First, finance or expand to larger and treated listening rooms.

Then purchase the best vintage tube amps and preamps I could think of and test them over a period of 6-12 months with any of my speakers.

First, I'd buy a nicer house nearby to move my gear into - maybe in the Shenandoah Valley with a view.
And maybe buy a winter home to store some other gear in for when it gets cold in VA ...

If I won the lottery, I believe that the house I would build would have more enough room for several systems, both old and new alike!

Ding, ding, ding. I think we have a winner! At least in my mind any way lol.

I would buy one of those HUUUUGE!!! metal barns to store all my scroes. :king:

I was thinking about this the other day when I was realizing compared with many on this forum just how little money I will ever have to buy new or different audio gear. Living on a fixed income where most of the money available goes into finishing our house really nips audio lust in the bud! What I have now was either bought with 1970's money or else was gifted to me. I did budget money to have EchoWars go through my old kenwood amp/preamp, and I just bought a new cartridge for my turntable that was given to me. These sorts of expenditures will be as far as I ever go. It is kinda freeing tho. I am reasonably happy with my old Jbl speakers, got lots of goodies albeit old goodies to play with so all that is left to do is sit back, buy and enjoy the music!

Exactly! Good decision!

I can see it now, CD clutched in my hand, wandering from room to room trying to decide which stereo it would sound best on. Then giving up and playing the music on every stereo. The only problem is it will take 5 hours to play each CD if I used every system.

That sounds like fun. There are worse things to do than that.

I think I'd have one really nice vintage system. Another main listening space with my dream system and another space for testing my speaker and project builds. I wouldn't hoard or collect, just put together a couple systems I really enjoy.

WOW! That is an incredible setup. Any idea of the cost? I suspect they wouldn't allow my type into that heavily gated community! Definitely Lotto material...
