First let's keep this a "what if" poll only. This is not about vintage vs. new at all, regardless of price range.

So what would you do?

I'll go first. I love my vintage stuff and enjoy it, but if I won the lottery I'd sure go all out with some very high end new gear for sure. Several Pass labs Xs 300 amps along with the accompanying Xs Preamp would be at the top of my list.

What of my mostly vintage gear? Well for me, I'd keep the best of it but it would likely be relegated to secondary locations.
I would buy a pair of Beveridge Model 2SW with power amp tube direct plate feed, a pair of MBL extremes RadialStrahlers. Best preamp I can find for Beveridge, best Preamp power amp combination for the MBLs. Buy a record lathe and install an Airbearing linear tracking arm and Dynavector Diamond cantilever Moving Coil cartridge. All with appropriate interconnects and speaker cables.

I’d go crazy with the tube stuff. I’d get all top of the line like-new vintage. They’re not making any more of that stuff, and it’s not getting any younger.

I have audio gear I'm happy with, both modern and vintage, so I'd just keep what I have. I'm sure I could find more practical things to throw big bucks at, if I had the money.

I agree maybe pick up a rare vintage piece here and there but over all I’m satisfied with what I have , might be fun to have a cool vintage audio store to help others enjoy the hobby !

The Lotto in my state was estimated at 2,000,000 last night. If it was at least four times as much, my answer would be completely different.

I'd start by putting a building out back to house a listening room and some storage.

I'd have some of the gear I already own completely redone (a few amps, a couple of tuners, one preamp, a couple of cassette decks).

Once the listening room was finished I'd cycle through all my speaker and amp combinations and narrow it down to a primary and maybe two backups.

Then I'd do the same with sources. I'd probably end up getting a new fancy schmancy turntable, a new dac and a really nice, perfect condition old reel to reel deck.

I figure all of the above would cost ~$125,000. I'd expect that (especially the purpose built listening room) would yield better results than just plunking down the same amount for all new gear.

Notning audio I am already very happy where I am at . I walked away from speakers I was about to purchase for $8000.

I drew my line a long time ago, if I would win the lottery. I'm paying of my house and become less depended of my daily job.

Way better investment

I'd buy all new, but put everything current in a climate controlled storage locker for a year, in case of buyers remorse on anything. Be nice to have a parachute to go back to in case the new stuff sounds too sterile.

I own a mix of old and new, I would maintain and upgrade my vintage pieces and supplement where I think improvement can be made with new items....
Actually, that is what I am doing...
