I was checking ePay, and there's a D-50 for sale right now. The seller claims it was made in September 1984. This would actually be a month before the official launch.

I've taken apart quite a few of my old Sonys for repairs, but I've never had a need to take apart my D-5. I'd like to see how they packed everything in there too, but I don't want to disassemble it just to peek (yeah, I'm chicken). From what I recall hearing, you are right about it having a single DAC multiplexed, instead of a pair.

OK so maybe not $30 for a D25 but I have seen them sold under $50, for example here is a link where one was sold used last year. I managed to get a D303 for $90! last year and sold it for a profit!

OK, but $50 D25s are still quite rare, and the going prices for them have jumped quite a bit in the last year. Great deal on the D303! Won't be seeing prices like that any more...
