WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) What about HAF (Husband Acceptance Factor)?

I'm in the lucky fella club too, as I've had my share of large speakers and many at one time! Klipsch LaScalas X 2 pair, Cornwalls, Infinity Kappa 9, Kappa 7, RSII X 3 pair, Polkaudio SDA-SRS, Magnepans, Genesis 200 etc. etc. :D

I wouldn't consider it as a result of luck though, as we are all in charge of our destiny to some degree and some take the bull by the horns and others tuck tail and run! I was trying to help some of the runners who are whipped, negotiate with there wife, who more than likely wears the pants. :whip:

Yep, if your woman rules the roost it's your fault, not hers. If you elect to give her the power in the relationship because you don't want confrontation, it's your choice and your compromise. Women are great long term strategists and will attempt to take power grain of sand at a time. What's the quote - "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance" - applies to relationships as well.

I've made a few posts lately pertaining to not getting equipment I wanted due to objections my wife would make. The reality is that I can't currently make purchases because I'm engaged in a home construction project that is financed out of my wallet, so all my cash flow goes there. Once its complete, I can purchase what I want as long as I can afford it, have a place and use for it (my rules, not hers). Also, I don't like clutter and only get what I have a specific use for. If I buy a new amp, the old one it replaces has to go.

The point is grow a pair and be a man. You only get one shot at life, so enjoy it. You will have to deal with confrontation and she will be pissed off at first. She will also respect you more and will be happier in the long run.

There was a psychologist on the TV the other day stating the following: A man needs to do only 2 things in a relation:

1. alway's agree with the female spouse, literally alway's.

Saves alot of whining and when you (the man) is right it will come out anyway. So save the trouble!

2. have an akward hobby or passtime. Anything non female will do.

Protect that hobby, use your own money and shield it form her.

He said that these 2 rules are the key to a durable relationship. But somehow following rule #2 is allot easier than following rule #1....

I must be an oddball. I can only think of 2 things to do in a bedroom and using it as a home theater ain't one of them.

Let me guess...sleep and watch the old lady snore? :lmao:

I dont seem to have this problem. The old lady gets 1/4 of the basement and the whole house. 1/4 of the basement cause of the washer/dryer. I dont care what she does with the rest of the house. Even though our interior decorator is a almost 3 year old baby girl that redecorates the house everyday. I buy whatever I want within reason. I dont take the house cash to buy anything. So I do have my collection and ones I do buy restore and resell to keep buying for my collection. One person posted that if the TV disappeared it wouldn't bother him. I feel the same way.

I'm doing exaclty the same. We are going to build a new house. I already told my GF she can have the whole house except the attic and the garage. If she wan't pink wallpaper in the bedroom, she cane have it. If she wants nice soft cudly pillows on the bed, she can have them. If she want's a walk-in-closet, she can have it.

AS LONG AS I CAN HAVE MY UP- AND DOWNSTAIRS MANECAVES!!!:king::music:

I must be really out of step. I never invited a lady into the bedroom to just watch movies. Or maybe I just always had one who agreed that active participation beats passive observance and no, it ain't to watch my old lady snore. I think some of you guys need to get out more err, maybe stay in more?

Glad to be single!

Seriously, I am WAYYY too stubborn and set in my ways to marry someone.

Unless I run across a woman who has her own electrostatic speakers and a tube amp....:scratch2:

I am simply and utterly unwilling to allow someone else to change what I'm supposed to like. We'd HAVE to have the same passions.

Marc

Although I'm currently single both of my ex-wives knew I had a substantial stereo with gynormous speakers. The also knew that I was not getting rid of my esl's or Magnepans. I suppose it helps if you already have the gear and put your foot down from the start.

My two divorces were not gear or speaker related.

You could, instead, just marry a woman with whom you have things in common with and who understand mutual compromise. They're out there.

I guess your walls are pretty bare, fotno.

Our walls are covered with pictures of family, friends and paintings/cross-stitch we both enjoy looking at. Framed wall hangings don't fall under my definition of knick-knacks because they serve another purpose, and aren't taking up valuable horizontal space. What I despise is a flat surface covered with crap that doesn't serve any purpose. I'm the same way with our lawn. I never understood folks who scatter flowerbeds and plantings all over their yards, lengthening the time it takes to mow sometimes by hours. I mow over 2 acres as it is... I call that stuff S.E.T.M.A. (Something Else To Mow Around) and won't have it in my yard.

And lest I be misunderstood: I am not my wife's boss, and she is not mine. I married a woman I love and admire, so the whole "I can't talk to my wife" thing is a mystery to me. My wife is free to chose any paint color she likes, select whatever color/style of furniture and hang whatever curtains she wants, and as long as none of it is yellow (a color that makes me physically ill), I couldn't care less.

You could, instead, just marry a woman with whom you have things in common with and who understand mutual compromise. They're out there.

Exactly.

I sleep under a pale yellow, lace trim quilt, need I say more? Wait I got more to say; complaints about speaker size is minor to complaints about "why are there so many ugly cords showing".

I'm in the lucky fellow club too. All of my equipment is in the man-cave. The living room system has nothing objectionable in it so she doesn't care. She mostly visits the m-c when we watch a movie, or the news together - although she's never excluded.

Yea there is a WAF in my house ... its about what sounds best ... I'd swap things out when she's out only to have her wince the first time she heard it ... if it sounds bad.

There have been a few speakers/amps/TT's/CD players etc that have brought out an unequivocal ... "that sounds damn good" from her ... I however do consider trading or selling away things that sound great but look fugly ... with the option of using it till the better item is found.

I currently got a set of Carvin 1503's in the living room in the front location (nothing but a horn works right here, ESS amt 1B's with her hand made covers in the mids, and Ns25T yamaha's in the rear above the cabinets, front center is a AR center forget the model but its a 4 driver job with a down firing 6X9 woofer if that rings a bell, the rear center is a Linaeum fitted RCA center. There is also a Velodyne sc1250 sub and a Akai RTR on the sub for now, the RTR will be swapped out when I get the other RTR's fixed up ... its a rotational thing.
Bedroom has wharfedale modus 8's and the T amp, kiddo has CR820 yamaha and Linaeum fitted RCA's LX8's. The garage and mancave has too much to list ...
I guess, my wife and kid have ears ... lucky am I.

Cool.
Srinath.

One of the biggest problems with the man cave theory is that not everyone has the extra space for one. A man cave is ideal, but it just isn't a reality for many which is half the reason the WAF exists.

I believe this is best summarized by the old saying... It's easier to obtain forgiveness than permission!

This is so true!

Just invite a woman over to watch a movie. There's only one place to sit in there, and really, its more comfortable to lay down. You have to get creative as far as space in downtown highrise apartments.

On this one I would like to quote Sade... Smooth operator! Lol! No, this actually is a very good point, especially when you need to consider maximum utilization of available space. :thmbsp:

The first part of this individual quote is something every man should take serious to some degree. It makes a lot of sense to me. As far as the second part is concerned, I still agree, but if these were my words, I would've said it in a way which places more value on my wife's opinion and ideas.

Marriage is a unity that I like to keep equal and balanced. 50/50 if you will. Ultimately, being the man of the house and having the responsability of protecting the family, I do have the final word, but ths comes with great consideration to my wife as she is the love of my life. So in reality, maybe it equates out to a percentage closer to 51/49... :D

Let me guess...sleep and watch the old lady snore? :lmao:

:boring: :D Funny!

+1 I couldn't agree more! There are amazing women out there that are a perfect match. :thmbsp:

And lest I be misunderstood: I am not my wife's boss, and she is not mine. I married a woman I love and admire, so the whole "I can't talk to my wife" thing is a mystery to me.

Right on! This is why "the wife" should be willing to let you have an ugly toy here and there if it really means that much to you. It's a mutual love and a balancing act as someone mentioned. Give a little and it will come back your way. WAF can be negotiated! I find all of the feedback on this thread extremely interesting and would like to thank everyone for there time and thoughts.

I find myself talking in great detail to my wife about the hobby. Most of the time she looks a bit tortured by it, so I will try to sum it up for her. I am amazed at the details she retains. My brother was over with his wife and we were kidding around by asking our wives what they thought about the very deep audio topic at hand. The responses for the most part were extremely funny and meant to be so. There were some serious answers as well that were spot on. This immediately got my attention. I thought that it would be easy to get them into home audio if we staged it right. Women are competetive by nature with one another.

I decided to give my wife a system of her own which consists of Sony TA-77ES amp, Magnepans (which she loves) and a few other choice pieces. Everytime we talk about audio details, I have found that she likes the challenge of being able to answer certain detailed questions correctly. She has come so far with her knowledge, I mentioned how cool it would be for there to be a website, or an AK subclub named WOA... (women of audio). She absolutely loved the idea and started running with the details. This made her excited about her new system that was all hers to do with as she pleases.

I have found that the approach is key and I am so siked to see her level of interest climbing. I think it would be so cool if we could get this subclub off the ground for all the wives who would be interested in it. Maybe call it WOA (women of audio, or wives on audio). It sure would be interesting. I personally think a subclub may not be active enough for it to work. I'm thinking a forum on the main list or maybe under the subscriber section. Just a thought. It's something that would affect WAF and is also something that may be worthy of a new thread all together. What are your thoughts everyone? :scratch2:

My wife is an interior designer so so no frilly crap no flowers no knick-knacks,but she hates big speakers. So down in the family room which is decorated the way I want and where the HT rig is I found some smaller speakers that I liked to make her happy. And i still have the garage(man-cave) where I keep all my vintage gear.

Say it ain't so. All the vintage gear is in the garage! Oh gawd no. Not in the garage. It deserves more billing than that. It should be headlined in the best space in the house! But, then again, maybe the man-cave is the best space in the house. :D:king::yes::thmbsp:

I love my wife and she loves me, so when she actually broke down crying one night because of the sheets on the bed...we had one of those full on honesty chats. She wanted sheets she loved, not compromise sheets that we both could live with. Fine by me, if it'll make her happy. We agreed that she would be in charge of all decor/style related decisions in the house, and I wouldn't say a word about her choices...but in exchange, I got her to agree that I'm in charge of all decisions regarding electronics, and she can't say a word about that. I honestly couldn't care less what the sheets look like as long as they're comfortable and clean. They could be silkscreened pictures of Justin Bieber's embarrassingly stupid grin, and I'd sleep like a pampered prince if they were 600 thread count or better...but I absolutely would lose my **** if I had to make due with an all in one craptastic Wal-Mart $200 compact stereo turd-in-a-box.

"But baby look, it's got an iPod dock."
"**** an iPod dock!"

That's how that'd go...but now that conversation never has to happen, cause I got me some veto power where it matters.

I dont know about anyone else, but I dont see this level of explicit language on this forum being a good thing.....
Just saying.....Its a family show.....

Hey the garage ain't so bad. It's heated and air conditioned and I've got my slotcar set and dart board in there. It's a little tight in there but I REALLY can't complain :thmbsp:

....

Second, big mistake about first asking the wife, just about every married man knows about that rule.
Only tell the other half 'after' you've made the purchase.
Never, never tell the other half about possibly making a deal for stereo/audio equipment because I'm sure you already know what her answer is going to be.
Plus she'll probably throw in the fact that you already have enough equipment already.
Always let her know 'after the fact', after you've made the deal and the stuff is already at your house.

Good Luck (with both deals: the speakers and the wife!).[/QUOTE]

This is asking for trouble. You go out and buy some new speakers say $2000. Ok she says I'm going out and buying that diamond tennis bracelet for $2500 if you could do it so can I and I know couple of girls who will do this.Marriage is a partnership guys.We never make big purchases without talking about it.:nono:

Certainly isn't anything wrong with having your own space for tunes, no matter where it is. As most here know, sometimes just gotta have it, or will be losing sleep wanting it. Guess it really is an infectious disease, but really have no problem with that, as been that way since in diapers.
