Waht's with all the $9.99 stuff on eBay?

CMK16

McNut
Obviously not on the up-and-up. He seems to have cornered the European market on anything McIntosh. Would people fall for this?

i've noticed this idiot too! i hope nobody gets ripped off by this guy.:sigh:

9.99

I saw those too. Just too many similiar listings to be on the up and up.

But not all 9.99 auctions are scams. I've listed stuff with 9.99 starting price and no reserve knowing full well the price would climb. Saves me a few bucks on listing fees. I don't however have a dozen Mc pieces laying around that I list like that:no:

I don't beliebe anyone was trying to imply that all $9.99 listing on high-end gear is a scam. I list many pieces of my Mcintosh equipment at a penny with NO RESERVE as I know it will be bid up. It is a good way to get many to view your auction and look at other pieces you have available.

I do not however give my email address in the listing and ask you to email me for Direct Sale and 1000's of dollars less than what the item will sell for. The reason this is done because the idiots have done ACCOUNT TAKEOVERS and are nothing more than theives!

CAVEAT EMPTOR = Buyer Beware! If it sounds too good to be true........ why would someone sell a 4K amp for $1,200.00 and state they will ship overnight for $20.00? The RED LIGHT in your head should be flashing warning you of danger ahead if you proceed.

We all want a deal but dealing with those who have a reputation for selling this type of item and stand behind our products will give you a great product. We cost more but you get what you pay for.

That guy is a pure scammer. I have spoken to (via e-mail) E-Bay about a half-dozen times on this guy. So many times in fact, that they got tired of me and I just gave up. If you click on his link, it immediately asks you to enter your E-Bay ID and password...Danger, Danger, Danger. According to E-Bay, this is how he hijacks other people's E-Bay ID information so he can continue to run the scam. If you notice, there is only a b-i-n option and he is hoping someone will pay him via paypal immediately. If you do, you are cooked. I actually contacted a couple of the real sellers via the "ask seller a question" option. Neither of them had anything to do with McIntosh gear and did not know what was going on. He also shows up selling other items like Klipsch speakers and Pioneer Elite gear. This is the kind of scumbag that gives E-Bay all their problems and a bad name.

Barrynsue, you are right. I had seen many of your listings on E-Bay before I had even found this forum and it was apparent that you were a legitmate seller with real products for sale. This kind of thing must frustrate you to no end.

Why doesn't ebay stop this jerk? I have purchased a lot of stuff off of ebay and it has gone well. Unfortunately when folks post things for sale and then tell you to complete the transaction outside of ebay it makes me very un-easy...

Ebay does pull fraudulent listings when they are reported. The problem is that so many people use lax passwords that it's easy for these scammers to steal ids. I'm sure they have lists of ids that they've figured out the passwords for ready to go.

Watch Out!

Along the same lines....there is a seller on e-bay (RedTop1) who claims to be a collector with all un-used McIntosh gear....still in the box...I have seen his ads for quite some time now....he is located on Long Island, Ronkockama (sp)...I mentioned this to Terry some time ago, and said WATCH OUT!!:thumbsdn:

So many scams out there ....and more troubling so many foolish individuals who get caught up in it all.:scratch2:
