Walnut Plinth for SL-1200

Thanks! I was just flashing on the "before" appearance:

It was my dream deck back in the 70s, before everyone told me belt drive was better, but it certainly looks a bit dated now.

That, sir, is impressive craftsmanship and I do thank you for sharing.

Zonker there's nothing dated looking re your SL-1200, there are countless knockoffs being mfg today that look almost identical but don't perform anywhere near as well as your SL-1200. I thought the KAB wood turntable bases looked nice but you took it to the limit and beyond. Someday I hope to have your speaker bases duplicated for my JBL speakers, the best looking design I'v seen bar none.

Thanks; that's very nice of you to say! I changed my avatar, at least for now. :)

To add to my "AWESOME" in post #40. A thing of great beauty :tresbon:

Of course I have to hate (:D) you now. None of us will be able to ever look at our own rigs the same way after this :grumpy:

PS It was going to be a bear to drop in the turntable without having an edge to hang onto, so I cheated and put the rear strip of wood on magnetic locator pins.

So I assume the plinth bottom is not open to support the tt from beneath to lower it in.

Correct; it has an 3/4" MDF "floor" that's beveled so it dropped inside flush with the bottom edge of the walnut sides. The TT is resting on that floor on Sorbathane feet.

In some sense, I guess, the original TT is thus a floating subchassis.
