Strictly speaking, unless it's a tube unit, or has particular ambiance, most consoles aren't worth more than what he is offering. It's called supply and demand. I see people offering nice consoles for free all the time. I also see people thinking that simply because it’s in nice condition; it is still valuable and ask ridiculous amounts of money.
My mother still has the Magnavox console my bad bought in the early sixties. It is in immaculate condition (It lives in the “living room” that no one was allowed to use…), and with a tune-up, probably still works fine. Since it is and early SS unit, neither she nor I have any illusion about its real value.
outlawmws: Hmmmm...then they must be crazy here in the Valley of the Sun because they're selling almost every console- especially older SS models- for $100 PLUS. Or at least, they're LISTING them at high prices here...
The thrifts around here stopped accepting them because they can't unload them at any price. (I bought a nice Zenith for $9 a few years ago to get the cab)
I suppose some might want them for holding up a new wide screen, but it seems a bit much, and the potential for storage is wasted. A credenza would be a better choice.
