Well Tempered tracking issues.

Hello all, so I have a wonderful sounding Well Tempered but it’s not so well tempered on certain albums.

So here is my setup. Well Tempered The Record Player with Benz Micro with new boron cantilever and micro line stylus. It sounds amazing. Except when I play older records. It’s tracking, well… it doesn’t track. It skips and jumps over grooves like a Richard Simmons VHS tape. I have everything dialed in correctly. The only doubt I have with the setup is the anti-skate. I am attaching pictures to show where the lines are set in relation to the tonearm. Pay no attention to the re-wire job I had to run outside of the tonearm. I know, I will get to doing it right jeez.

So my question is. Could it be the anti-skate that is off? I read somewhere the silicon level might cause that. It looks right to me.

Note: Newer records play fine. I have a few other turntables (Rega P3, Rek-O-Kut, Luxman PD-264) and those skipping albums play through fine on those.

you may want to try making a larger loop with your wire bundle. Remember you are only talking about a gram or two of force, pretty easy for a wire bundle to create that level when a bending arc is applied to them.

Hum is an issue if the negative wires are loose at the rear RCA outputs, this is a common issue with the ring terminals.

They get loose from twisting the interconnects on or off, you'll need to remove that little box at the back to check, just be careful tightening them you don't break the wires at that end.

I've had to do this a few times before I finally got them perfect and now I have absolutely no hum issues even if the volume control is pegged.

Good luck and interested in hearing your results.
I've enjoyed reading this thread and the suggestions. I bought a relatively inexpensive phono amp (Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 Ultra) from Amazon to confirm if my existing phono amp was faulty..Planning to return it if my current phono amp was okay or return it anyway if it doesn't sound great. My existing phono amp is faulty in addition to humming. The new one hummed too but I got it down to almost inaudible by grounding the turntable to the phono amp. Something I have never had to do in the past. It makes me think I still have a ground loop issue somewhere.

I'll see what I can do to improve the cartridge wire situation when I work up the nerve to put the moving coil cartridge back on.

The turntable ground wire is supposed to be attached to the phono preamp if using an external unit, that's why it worked to eliminate the hum.

I recently bought an old WT Classic at a decent price and i had no issue with the setup process with my Supex900 super cartridge. The turntable performs oustanding versus my LP12 + a lot of addons/tweaks about 5 times more pricey...
The only concern i have is a drifted plinth: the top slab needs to be pushed for about half a centimeter... Maybe it's necessary to unglue the top slab in order to be able to push it back to a correct undrifted position. I guess i have to remove the arm and the spindle/bearing... Any help would be welcomed

Yup, a likely outcome for these three-layer plinths. Live with it for as long as you can tolerate it. If you need to take it apart and put new foam tape in between the layers, do a search here on AK as there are descriptions from those who have done that repair. Good luck, great table!

I have been able to align the 3 different layers of the plinth by using clamps like wood working clamps very very slowwly…In a warm environment.
Changed living locations and had to do it again…. slow and time accompanied by the proper environment did the trick. Its been at least 6-7 years ago she still has not shifted since.
I actually adjusted and moved and tightened the clamps over the course of a day or so.
Best of luck !
