Could be. The workmanship is pretty good, but no badges or tags. Grills obviously redone - no provision for attaching to the velcro between the woofer & midrange. The guy I got them from thought they might have been some kind of house brand from Austin called Betas.

I've seen that woofer somewhere before, may have been in college and forget the system, but IIRC it wasn't bad. The cloth surround likely needs redoping and that crack needs to be taken care of.

No, there was another company in Dallas, I believe, that PWK had ok'd/given permission of them to make a Heresy version and I have seen them with the tags on them. it will come to me but they are rather rare and only built for a short time. I'll find it eventually....

There was a Texas company making horn speakers named Beta (one of their large speakers got an unusually sympathetic review from Stereophile which generally hated horn speakers). So they may be what he thought they were. And they aren't homebrew Heresy copies - there is a vent at the bottom - I assume a ducted vent.
And there is clearly a tab for velcro above the woofer.
