What "Audio Related" item were you GIFTED?

Dang, I almost forgot, Pio1980 sent me some Dynaco A25's many years back. Wouldn't even let me pay shipping.

One tweeter was bad, but I had a set of Morel MDT-37's that were up to the task. Had both woofers reconed by GordonW, and then set about working those tired cabinets.

The wife even took the stock grillcloth and soaked in Oxyclean and they are not perfect, but quite presentable.

I've thanked Pio countless times, GordonW as well, and the greatest praise I could give them came courtesy of my grandson, who was 8 years old at the time.

I was trying to talk him into taking a set of Cerwin Vegas I had (D1's, fine little 2 way) and he simply pointed at the now-restored and shiny Dynacos and said

"I WANT THOSE!!!"

In time, kid. In time. :rflmao:

Here's the resto thread. A few pics.

Your Grandson has great taste right now. Future music lover. I love my pair of Dynaco A-25 speakers and cherish them (they are so very musical). May the Circle Be Unbroken. Start them young, they will love music and fine sound the rest of their lives.

My nephew gave me his cd boombox - the cd player wasn't working.

Took it apart and put some lithium grease on it and it's working fine. Have it out in my garage.

My father gave me a Technics RS-M250 cassette deck that I admired at a young age mainly for the multi-color digital peak reading meters.

Also a Marantz Model 19 from my grandfather.

Both of the units I hope to restore very soon.

Fingers crossed.

70 each like absolutely brand new M- LPs from the 50s & 60s. All were titles that are the older music 'no one ever listens to anymore'... except there were 4 really good titled $25 albums which I will keep: Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Cash (the prison album), and 2 other 'good' country albums. My uncle passed away back in 1972. His son, my cousin, got the records, never played them, and he gave them to me 2 weeks ago. A bunch of Connie Francis, Dean Martin, albums like that but no Sinatra which was really surprising.

I do need to go through them to find out who all the artists are, many women. Never heard of the greater majority. There may be a sleeper or 2 in there I'm not aware of. It will be fun to go through them.

It's like a 'Blast From The Past' in 'New Covers & New LPs'. It's like going back to a 50s/60s record store!

Nothing. I've bought every audio related thing that I've had, except for a few bad CDs that were Christmas gifts.

An old friend of mine (he lived next door to me my sophomore year in college) gave me a broken Marantz 4270. Given what they're selling for now vs. what I paid to have it repaired, that was an excellent gift. I think I've mentioned this before, but not only did it come from a friend, but it has a sticker on the AM antenna showing that it was originally sold at a stereo store in Pittsburgh that was owned by a grade school classmate's dad. (and my college friend and grade school classmate would have no reason to ever have met; the only connection is that I assumed the guy that gave it to me bought it used when he still lived in Pittsburgh for a while after graduating)

IIRC I sent him a Simpson 260-8P that I'd bought cheap and repaired to cover the cost of shipping it to me, so we both got a good deal (I already had another 260-8P)

Edit: I also have four huge boxes of LPs in my foyer right now that my landlord's mom found in a property she was cleaning out. I'm going to pass those on to a FoaF who is a radio station sound engineer for a couple shows of that genre (bluegrass, Americana, old school country)

When I was maybe 12 my uncle gave me a Pioneer KP-500 cassette car stereo with a 12-volt power supply and a couple of small Akai speakers. I was ecstatic to have that rig as my first bedroom audio setup.

Over the years other audio gifts from folks have included ADS L710 speakers, Soliloquy SAT5 speakers, Phase Tech PC65 speakers, a couple of 2-head Nakamichi tape decks, several home theater receivers and speakers, a few nice records, an excellent Sanus equipment rack, and more.

I have tried to pay it forward by giving a lot of equipment and some LPs to friends and family. In one case I gave some speakers to someone I knew only a bit through AK. I hope he enjoyed them.

My 1st stereo, (a Dokorder compact), was for my 16th birthday. 50 years later, my wife got me these sweet wireless V-Moda headphones. Also, I've been given several multi-thousand dollar, multi-ch AVR's because they were unsellable due to lack of HDMI capability.

An old friend of my Dad's reached out on Facebook when he saw I posted a pic of an old Eico Cortina I picked up for $25. He had his Pioneer SX-1000tw he shipped back from Vietnam and was going to drop it a Goodwill if I didnt want it. It wasnt working but he also gave me a set of Realistic Nova 16's that needed repair. Both are now working. The Pioneer is in my den hooked to my Dynaco A-25's and the Nova's are in my son's room hooked to his gaming TV through Pioneer SX-450.

Well, the good thing, is that they made like 600 thousand of those A25s. Should be able to find another pair for the lad. :D

Regards,
Gordon.

I know one person who was gifted a pair of Von Schweikert E3 speakers.

And another who was gifted a VAC Renaissance V preamp and a VAC Signature 200iQ tube amp.

I think "stunned" was the correct word to describe both of these people when they received these items.

Great friends sometimes just go beyond...

Regards,
Gordon.

My best bud's vintage Mcintosh system when he passed several years ago. C28, MC2125, MAC1700, MCD7009, XR5's, stacked ML1C,s, Crown RtR's Altec Valencias, Luxman M117's and many other fine pieces including a monsterous tube collection and a truckload of manuals. Sadly I just couldn't keep it all.
