What car do you wish you had BACK, again?

..... If I had to pick only one, the Ambassador would edge out the Tornado by a small factor...

The Ambassador had the AMC 327, factory 4-speed with bucket seats, was a 2 door hardtop, with
factory posi.

It looked like a 66 Chevy II with a different front end. The Tornado was dream to drive, but the
Ambassador was fun to drive.

Also, I rarely ever saw another Ambassador which was cool in itself!

Scott

That was originally a Nash motor. Really well built, and quite potent for a small V8. :thmbsp: That's what powers my '68 Wagoneer.

Best highway car I ever had...strong like an ox with the 454 engine, cb radio, and a alot of space..

1977GrandMarquisBrougham.jpg

1966 Mustang 2+2, 289, highrise Edlebrock manifold, Holly 600CFM carb, 4 speed, nice cam.

When I cranked it, the whole neighborhood knew.

1978 Plymouth Fury, mine was maroon 2 door hardtop and had a very economical 225 slant six. I bought the car in 1988 for $250 in perfect condition inside and out and I drove it until 1993.

cool car the ol 225 slant 6 never died, the rods would knock the valves would rattle and oil pressure would drop to the point you needed 50w motor oil and parafin. but it would still fire up and get you to work after 500,000K without a rebuild that motor should be in the hall of automotive fame.they may get tierd but they never give up!

1976 Mercury Cougar XR-7. 365 engine, electric blue leather seats, mag wheels. We could fit a picnic of 5 kids on the roof. Damn, that was one nice car.

1958 Chevrolet Yeoman Wagon. I've always been a wagon guy. Had a 6 cyl w/3 speed on the tree. Had a tube AM radio. You could see them glow through the gaps in the all steel dash. Nine passengers and no seatbelts that I remember. Power nothing but had a steering wheel the size of a garbage can lid. Had a matress in the back. Lived in it for a month or two in late '76. It was a party wagon and way more cool than a van.

All of us have probably sold a car, and later, wished we hadn't...

Here's mine: this may sound odd... but I miss my 1968 Opel Kadett station wagon. Was originally a 1500 (motor that was doomed from its inception), but I wound up retro-fitting a 1900 engine from a wrecked Opel GT. Put air conditioning on it, even (under-dash kit). Had the gauge package and seats from a Kadett Rallye, and re-painted Chevy Vega wheels with hand-fitted center-caps and chrome lug nuts. White, with blue interior and blue wheels.

The reason? It'd get 30mpg AVERAGE (35 on the highway!), and haul ANYTHING (including a**, with the GT engine. :D ). In a dire emergency, you could get 10 people into one of those things... they wouldn't be comfortable, but they would FIT.

I could really use that car now. About the only thing I'd change, would be to retro-fit an EFI fuel system on it (carburetors be d***ed, after many years of having to work on them, I never plan to do THAT again!)... and probably a better stereo system (naturally :D )...

So, who's next?

Regards,
Gordon.

BMW 750IL -1998 edition

1956 Chevy Nomad, 1960 Corvette, and 1963 Corvette roadster.

Any of them would be fine :tears:

The one car I'd like to have back is my Mom's 1967 Buick Wildcat. Sharp looking and fast. That car met an untimely end. Tried to eat a Mustang head-on and died of indigestion. (No humans were seriously injured in the making of this crash.)

1963 Austin Mini Woody Wagon

Yes, I had a 1963 Austin Mini Woody Wagon I bought in '68, looked just like the one pictured here but was Fire Engine Red.

What a blast that car was. Put a twin SU carb and intake manifold on it from an Autin Sprite, and that sucker went like spit.

Wish I only had more brains back then, I might still have had it today.

Similar experience 75 Monte Carlo bueatiful car but the worst possible year ! The good , midnite blue white landau top corvette rallies ! The bad 5.7 ltr 145 hp smog motor in A 4500 lb car ! cheap vinyl seats the fix , installed a 71 350 300 hp ! Bought a wrecked 77 Monte landau with a fancy interior , tilt steering and power windows installed in my 75 . Hit a telephone poll changed the front to a 77 Monte with square headlites and 20 Coats of Laquer in minute blue a good sound system ready to go ! Also swooped out the rear end from a 275 gear with 9” break drums to a 308 with 11 “ drums out of a chevelle station wagon great combo with the stronger 350 not only went quicker but also stoped quicker ! Had the car for 20 yrs sold it to a relative who destroyed it in 6 months !

Mine is not a common one: my 78 Thunderbird. Looked exactly like:

Right down to the hub caps. No vinyl on the roof though.

Buckets and console shift.

My Dad bought it new off the lot and handed down to me when he bought his next new car.

I loved that big ol’ boat!

Came with a 302 and a c4, I slipped a 460 with a c6 between the frame rails.

Quick? Not really. Weight dist was all wrong for planting the rears. You just couldn’t get it to hook from a dig.

Fast? Sort of. But the speed it could carry could become a real problem when its mass was combined with the brakes and suspension of the time.

But a set of fresh rear tires would disappear at a single stop light if you wanted them to. Burnouts for distance was only done when you lifted your foot. It was a tire frier! Great fun!

I still have the hood ornament on display in my shop:

I miss that car. I’d snatch it up in a heartbeat if I even ran across its bare frame and rebuild it, but its probably long been crushed into cheap razor blades…
