I sure hope that this does not make me look like an Idiot but It occurred to me that each set of speakers I own has made a different thought pop into my head. Does that happen to you? If so admit it- what speaker- What thought?

NHT vt2- I gotta get the bigger power amp hooked up.

Klipsch Chorus (unimproved)- Nice, Neutral,not at all what I expected
should be more to it.

B&W 804 Matrix- They dissappear,transparent, this tune is great though,
I need a better amp, I can hear this ones problems now.

Larger Advents 25 anniversary - Kind of in your face and I like it with these.

Bose 141- Yup. They work, next

ESS AMT 1b's- Those Heil tweeters sing like the mythical Sirens.

Snell k/II- How can you sound so good? You have a 1" tweeter and 8" woofer. You're just a bookshelf speaker, for God's sake!
 
I hate to "think" about how many pairs of speakers I have right now that aren't getting used. :D
 
Neat thread. I'll take a shot.

Original Large Advents: Been re-capped and re-foamed and in use with my SPEC 1&4. I know that these are just simple speakers and I should really try and find something better for my SPEC's but man, I really like the way they sound. If I could only find another decent pair so I could stack them. Yeah, that would be the ticket.:yes:

Pioneer HPM-100's: I really want like these and have tried and yes, they've been re-capped but sooner or later I know the time will come when I sell them. I'll still miss you guys.:sigh:

Yamaha NS1000M's: I could really use the money that these could bring, and what if I lose one of those drivers? Let me just have one more listen. Nope, no way are these going anywhere.:D

ADS L810- How can speakers this old and cheap sound so good? Best sound per dollar (used) that I have ever spent.
 
DCM KX-10 II- Sound great, but harsh highs. Plays loud and in your face, but fun overall.

Rogersound Labs VS-8(?)- Great highs thanks to titanium dome tweeter, tight bass and fairly good mid-range.
 
if we have a BIG Earth shaker here....

My ESS PS6d's are probably gonna come rollin and tumblin down off the OAL's...

Delta 15's I have been at this for nearly 30 years and have heard nothing even close. They make me doubt the statement that there is no speaker that can do everything!

I guy I bought my DQ10s from demoed them with some big ass Macs. I can't remember the exact model. They never sounded quite that good again.

Vienna Acoustic Haydn (first Gen.) Best overall speaker.
Mach One (4024a) Low to mid listening levels very nice, higher volumes too harsh
JBL L3 Impressive speaker, and may have to try again, but last felt harsh on top end
JBL L88 Too much high end and a bit boomy for me
Pioneer CS99 (sans "a") weak bottom end, muddy mids, good highs. Need to try on vintage SS equipment
Sansui SP-3500, pretty much same as Pioneer though not as muddy, bit clearer
RTR G-200, currently my go to HT speakers. Possibly a bit boomy though with music.
Nova 5b jury is still out. Need recapping before any further comments
Advent1 pretty surprising, good bottom end, good mids and highs, but very short time listening
Optimus 7b my biggest surprise speaker. Has performed exceptionally well given it's size and the reputation of being R.S.
Mach Two (4032) my first pair I loved, my current pair weak in the mid to upper mid range. Strong bottom end. Recapp?
Pioneer HPM-40 very surprising bottom end but sadly too harsh at higher volumes. Very nice imaging and not too fussy about placement.
Allison Acoustic CD7. Just floors me the bottom end for size and foot print. While mids and highs excel along with imaging, become too harsh at higher volumes.

Many more being restored and hope to report later. Each also behaves differently depending on the vintage and make and model of Receiver as well as the "type" of music listened to.

Same for my 604-8G's in 612C cabs !
Also have Cornwall II's 1986 Best bass from the Klipsch Heritage line IMO.

But this is a hobby so I have now got into building my own ! With all Altec components of course.. With Big A** Dual 15" Woofer Boxes ! :D :music: :banana:
 
What do I think about my speakers?

I think they need to be treated with tung oil, I think I need to try to remove the water mark on the top of one of them, I think they are in pretty good condition for 30yrs old, I think that maybe one day I'll get round to repairing the lugs that hold the grills on.

But most of all I think that they sound awesome.:banana:
