What FM antenna are you using!?

Rabbit ears. Works great.

Audiolab 8000T

Plucked a set of TV rabbit ears off a old 19in. color at the dump about a year ago. They are over 3 ft. long each fully extended and have about 18 inches of 300 Ohm flat lead. They have a very small plastic base and did not balance on there own. I quad HD rubber banded them to a block of mahogany. They work surprisingly well sitting on top of my tuner in the basement...
 
I use whatever the lead-in wire coming out of the garage ceiling connects to. It is whatever was in the attic when we moved in. FM sounds very good, but there is very little worth listening to in the local area.

Get those up on the roof where they'll do much better. Your roof would be easy to work on, shallow pitch. You can use a tripod lag-bolted at the peak,5' mast minimum. Rotator highly recommended. As your house is shadowing both antennas now, your results may be less than you expect, & you can do much better with altitude. Try it, you'll like!
 
Radio Shack VHF/FM/UHF full-size outdoor antenna purchased 1994 and moved from the attic of one house to another. I can count the lights on the transmitting owers from my front yard. Even using enough splitters to run six tuners, I still have signal out the wazoo. I suspect you could find one on Craigslist.
 
I would put them on the roof but as I said, I live on the side of a mountian and the wind is beyond belief. Would rip em down no doubt. Besides, I found out why pointing SE gives me a better signal on stations due north in Quebec......a huge transmitting tower reflects the signal! It is located SE OF MY HOME!
 
The little Stellar Labs 4 element yagi is not too bad...a little light on construction, but could be good in an attic where it's out of the wind. It's only 5' 6" long...$30 and change at Newark. Got mine at 50% off sale back in the fall.

Well I am in a Catch 22 situation with my 3 antennas, it seem that the reception improved by a good margin, but I get 3 stations with more multi path than before, any idea how to improved my antenna set up ? thinking about removing the antenna in the middle.
 
I've read different numbers, but closer than about 6-12 feet to each other,
and you're probably causing interference between the antennas. Another
thing is that sometimes moving the mast a few feet can dramatically
change reception. I'd put the two antennas on separate masts entirely and
experiment with location.
 
6-12ft is roughly 1/2 to 1 wavelength for FM, so that's probably a good starting point for spacing. Obviously further apart is better.

I've got a set of old rabbit ears which work ok (the FM dial is pretty crowded around Boston), but once I finish running RG6 up to the attic I'll put something beefier up there. That Steller Labs yagi looks hard to beat for the price.
 
Does anyone recognize this Antennacraft FM antenna? 10 elements, 2 driven loops and approximately 10' long. It was purchased new in the mid to late
1970's. It is shown sitting on the floor upside down (i.e. the view is from the bottom).

Antennacraft made a 10 element FM antenna they called the FM10 but I think it had three driven elements. Maybe this is a earlier version of it? If you look up FM antennas in the online Radio Shack catalogs, you might find more info.

The formula to figure wavelengths is 300/frequency..giving wavelength in meters. Figuring from the middle of the band...300 / 98 = 3.06122449m x 39.37 = 120.5204082"...so 1/2 wavelength would about 60". This varies about 7" from one of the band to the other. Definitely good to separate by the proper distance.

is that what is causing multi path ?
I had multi path before but with the new antennas the multi path increased

It's possible that the upper one is messing with the lower one...disturbing the regular pattern and making it more susceptible to multipath. I would definitely just run the Stellar Labs by itself.
 
I would be interested in those dimensions if you would be kind enough to share. You could post them here.

Yup! That would be the one. Thanks Beer. If anyone is interested I can take measurements. It has always worked well for us.
