RX-2's are extremely cool looking, but unless you happen to stumble upon a deal for a compatible cartridge you have a doorstop. Plus they don't sound anywhere near as good as a decent Thorens.
 
This thread just keeps on going strong, just like the energizer bunny!

I just lucked into a Beogram RX that is very minty! It has one light scuff and that is it, and it comes with a MMC 4R cartridge. I am quite impressed with this baby! It has a good heft to it, and yet it looks so light! And I love the style! Acoustically it sounds very good! :) I'm very happy with it.
 
I have a TX2 that is in da basement....been fixed numerous times by Soundsmith...i found it musically blahhhhhhh...
 
I just found one of these locally without stylus for $25, otherwise seems in great shape. I know the cart/stylus options are expensive and plan to investigate thoroughly before taking the plunge.

The cartridge can be sent to Germany to be retipped for about 90 or 100 -€. I had 2 done a year or 2 ago.

So I have 2 cartridges in reserve for my RX-2 so at the rate I use that turntable I have many years of use in store for me. :)

Thanks for the reply. The stylus is gone. Can they replace it, or just retip existing?
 
A new belt is a good idea.

They really sound good if not a little quite. Cartridge output is around 2.1mV.
Just sucks about the limited stylus option.
 
I just got one of these for free. Played right off the bat but seems to need a new stylus. At least I hope that's the case. It sounds very scratchy, but definately plays. From what I see here, if the cart is shot then this thing is toast, but I'd try a new needle....
 
Yeah, actually I think the mmc3 has come down in price.
I seem to recall it being $399 before.

I had a B&O mmc3 on a RX 2 and it sounded wonderful.

Well, from the looks of it, you can't get just a stylus. You need to buy a new cart. I think I'm gonna pass.

I have a TX-2, came with the B&O cart which was DOA. Replaced it with the cheapest Soundsmith, thought it was too bright and too sibilant.
Had the guys in Germany rebuild the original with a Shibata stylus. Much better but even though the deck is dead quiet and easy to operate (nearly cat proof!) sonically it's not even in the same ballpark as an idler Dual. It's here as a back up should some disaster strike.
