What I learned on Craigslist

Not on craigslist, but I learned on ebay that item item can still be in "good condition" even while considering the following:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mar...pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item27cb1bbff7
Not to defend that seller, but he did start out saying fair condition - I imagine he probably slipped back into saying good condition at the end. At least he was honest, I've had more than enough "Yeah, it's in great shape!" get there and notice it's beat to hell and back. Good condition compared to what?

Responding to newspaper ads in my younger years, when I was looking to buy a used car that are about 10 years old.
I get there and the thing does not run like it should and the seller say's "Can't understand it, the car has been in the family for over 10 years and has never given us an ounce of trouble".
The other very common sayings were "Well, it never did that before".
The most common one is "It always was good".

Fail!

"These speakers have been sitting for 12 years and I swear they havn't played three hours worth of music... SWEAR!!! They are superb. Unfortunately, they do not have the equalizer that come with the two units. It appears to be lost. These speakers are a real value at the current listed price, for I paid 1,200.00 - 12 years ago. Come and get them. 2XX XXX XXXX Tony"

Well if Tony SWEARS ya gotta believe him right? :thumbsdn:
I wonder if the required equalizer will magically turn up for sale in a week? :scratch2:

I'm starting to learn how bad it can get if speakers fall into the wrong hands:

These are identified as Laurete Avents. Need "2 twitters."

$35?

I've learned that if i'm selling something, They always email asking if I have more than one of the item I am selling. If i'm the buyer the item is still for sale just not to me. If your the seller and they ask you to take a check for more money and their shipper will pick up the item after you've cashed the check and where should they send the check to. Have fun with them :D I give them the address of the local PD fraud division and have them make the check out to ________________ who just happens to be a real detective in the fraud division. Its interesting how the buyer does not contact me to ask if i've received and cashed the check cause his shipper is waiting to come pick up the item.

Current CL ad: Two 12" woofers and 2 6x8 mids. Little out dated but still in great condition. Been sitting in my apt for years. Whole system at a great price....... Contact Jamie at.

Hmm wonder if they been sitting in the lotus position? Nice to know also, that is all you need to make a whole system.

CL: I am asking $150.00/O.B.O. for the entire set-up and everything mentioned in the ad. I am willing to go down slightly in price, but $200 is about 1/3 of the price I paid for the grill and 1/6 of the price you will pay for a new Weber.

How much is slightly?

Never inform potential buyers until you have money in your hands. I'm too nice, giving lengthy answers to questions, being thorough. I had a guy ready to buy something I had on Craigslist and he asked me if it would work for what he wanted to do, he expanded on his background and why so I went into depth since I could see he cared more than most that email me. He thanked me for the email and had a few more questions, I answered them all - so then we were going to setup a time to meet the following day, never heard anything from him. Been two entire days without an email, and this coming from someone who emailed me promptly each day.

Shows what you get for being a nice helpful individual - stiffed. I'm done being real friendly and detailed, next time someone asks me "Hey will that work with this?" I'm going to simply say "Yes it will." or "No, it won't." If they want details, just tell them to google it or go to a forum. It's awful that I have to do this, but I have better things to do than waste my time writing specific answers for someone's scenario.

I learned that you can mock eBay/CL gear flippers anonymously!
Obnoxious CL post
Original text for when this ad expires: "Stereos wanted - $999 (Your house)

Hello, I'm looking for really stupid people that want to sell their used electronics really really cheap and have no idea their worth. I may pay up to a penny on the dollar
if you're lucky and I'm feeling generous. That's what I do. I'm a low baller when it comes to buying and a high baller when it comes to selling. I buy low and sell high. Only I may be do that because I'm VERY special. (my mom told me so).
Please sell me your high end audio components for pennies. I especially want McIntosh and Vintage Fisher with tubes. I want all original tubes too. I take them out and replace them with Chinese and Russian crap. I sell the tubes separately. I also list Sansui for highly inflated prices but don't ever sell the stuff. How many weeks can I list the same thing over and over until it doesn't sell, again?
I have a few pairs of Bose 901 speakers that I sell for more than retail and then charge extra for the equalizer even though they don't work w/o it. When I buy them I tell you they are worthless w/o them too to.
Please call me and sell me your stuff cheap, don't think it's worth my time to come look at it unless you all but give to to me. When I'm done screwing you if you've been good I'll let you lick my butt.

If you're offended by this, good. For the rest of us, we are all laughing at you."

This sansui has been up since December 2011:

During that time, four TU-9900 have come and gone for under $500 in the same area.

Here I learn that the letters 'k' and 's' must always be separated with apostrophes. Among other things.

R.C.A. home sterio - $60

Wow, I don't think I've ever spotted a 5-dick CD player. You bet it has a lot of options! If that's the kind of thing you go for. :smoke:

1. I learned that people can't perceive size of an object over the internet, even if you give dimensions and a picture next to another common object.

I leave work early to meet this guy, and he gets here and says "aww man, I thought they's gonna be bigger!"

2. In the same visit, I learned that when they bring their "expert" friend, they are allowed to talk trash about your stuff right to your face! "Buddy, you don't want them speakers, they ain't gonna sound right" (while making a diaper-changing expression). Umm, hello, I am standing right here...

They did end up buying them, but what a joke... OH! I forgot-

3. I learned that when a CL buyer spots your address, he can just put his huge truck in park, right in the middle of the street. Then when you ask him nicely to park properly, he will pull across the street, and park facing the wrong way on a street that has no parking on that side.

3 Lessons in one visit. Lucky me.
