I've been reading the Luxman L-3 service manual and came across this line:

Residual noise: No more than 1 mV

Is this what we call DC-offset?

Thanks all.

Don't know much about it but, just wanted to say hello from Sherbrooke !

Measured output AC noise signal when inputs are shorted.

So how do I test this myself? Do I short out the currently-used inputs and measure the speaker output, or I can simply defeat the input selector so no inputs are selected?

Do you really need to? Usually it is done using spectrum analyzer. If you do not hear significant hiss, no reasons to bother.
