what is this speaker cable?

Descartridge

Stereos been berry, berry good to me!
Please help me to identify this speaker cable which was a 'throw in' with a pair of heresys. They are great sounding.
They are a braided cable, green and cold insulated wires encased in a flat plastic ribbon.
Here is the pic:

You got a variation of the Polk Audio Cobra speaker cables. Made by a japanese company and sold by Polk in the seventies. The first "high end" speaker cable. High capacitance cable that I have read will blow up an unstable amplifier. I have a set I got at a thrift store and they sound very good, never had a problem with my amplifiers. Mine and most others I have seen including the pictures sent to me by Arthur Salvatore are a single braided run. Arthur recommends paralleling this cable many times, yours appear to already be paralleled. I have used them with many speakers from Apogee ribbon speakers to Acoustat electrostatics and now with some modded Fostex fe-167e and have never had a problem.

Stunning information!
These cables provide impressive sound and do look great, although in my garage system (SAEs etc and Linn Indexes).
It appears that these are valuable??? Any idea of the estimated worth.
As I mentioned above, it was a throw in on a very good score- a pair of Heresys (from the 80s), the cables and 2 short stands.
Thank you.

I wouldn't assume that 30+ year old cables are worth anything and if they were, this wouldn't be the forum to ask about values.

I stay out of cable debates and never bring up the Cobra's. But let me just say that starting out in audio at Arthur's store in the 80's I heard many things that are still undisputable to me. The Polks would be one of those things.

Oddly enough I also stumbled on to some speaker wire that I reconfigured out of a necessity. And it resulted in a cable that is just as obvious as the Polks. And like the Polk cable was very cheap in it's stock form. My wife was in the other room when I hooked it up on our livingroom system and she said "What did you do!" and she never comments on sound quality.

Polk??cable

Thanks for the info.
I don't mean to hijack, but always wondered about but never used this set of Cables. I assume they are a different version of the illustrated flat above.

Those definitely look like they've got the Litz treatment. Plenty of suface area on those conductors. ....if you're into that.

I just tossed a set of this cable that was Monitor Audio branded as I recall. Bought it in the early 80's when I bought my L112's at the Army exchange in Germany. Ran them on this stuff for 20 years. I only threw them away because I wrecked on pulling it out of a tight hole.

Doh, I just read one of the links and the Polk cable was sold in Europe under the Monitor Audio brand. Son of a gun.

Marc MC - I would be really interested in hearing about the other cables you "stumbled on to". I'm one of those freaks that likes to play with cables.

Wish I could hear those Polks.......

Hah! :D My wife did the same to me once! Except the sound was degraded even though I paid a few hundred $ for them! Sent them back....
