What is your perfect speaker?

I have heard that the ranger series JBL,s

weren't the best 'sounding' speakers around..... more of a nostalgia thing than anything else... but I dunno -- never heard (or even seen them).....

love my Altec 19,s......

For really analytical listening: NHT 3.3's.
For just setting up in the house and having music everywhere: Ohm Walsh 4's.
If I want to hear angels singing in my living room: Apogee Divas.

And the problem is, those three speakers could not be more different.

bozaks of course

Most Bozak speakers. I especially love the combination of Bozaks matched with Sansui. These days, given limitations on price and ability to play music loud, I'd vote for a pair of Bozak 401's, excellent speakers I bought originally in 1974 that are still mint today & sounding as great as the first time I heard them.

Of speakers I've owned "which I currently have about 30 pairs" the yamahas were the
king of rocking you out with pants shaking sonics that were also clear! The time frames
and the jm/labs were great at moderate levels and needed subs but what I've been
listening to lately might be the cats ass all the way around! ESS AMT-6's that I've had
to rewire for 1 bad tweeter on each (now they have 3 heils instead of 4) These things
are so smooth and clean/crisp with great lows and they just jump out there.

Soon they will be setup in a much better place to evaluate the imaging aspects of them.

Of speakers Ive heard but never used or owned (except friends) it would be either a
pair of B&W Nautilus 801's or Aerial 10T's, both are great all around speakers.

Edgar horns with horn subs

I'll second that vote. After listening to all sorts of various speakers in boutique shops and national audio events. The speakers that just do it all right are Dr. Bruce Edgar's, Edgar Horn Titans. They are so perfect in pure reproduction. I hope some day before I die I can get me a pair. It would be a dream come true and I would spend countless hours in front of them. Yup, the man has gotten it right...

Yup, no ifs, ands or buts. And shoot, I don't even have the golden ears that some do and I can hear it clearly.

I'd like to start w/ a 7.1 system based on these, Western Electric 757As:

If I didn't like the result, I could sell them and pretty much buy anything I wanted speakerwise.

:naughty:

love the Sony SS-M9ED. Tight, tight, real tight bass to to die for. Mid range so clear and a high end that is just right..... I guess my older SS-M9 will just have to do....

Well Cubdog, you got about as many different speakers as responders. I guess that's why there are so many aout there. To each his own.

Oh yeah, I have moded KEF Q65's

For my modest sized house and modest listening levels - Infinity RS 6000's. If I hit the Lotto and have a ballroom, maybe quad Kappa's or VOT's.

Well?

Klipschorns, and voting for a speaker I have never heard but want to, Altec Model 19's

mac

You've heard 'em, whaddya think? I'm having a hard time picking between the M19's or the Infinity RS IIb's...:scratch2:

They are so different, but each wonderful in their own right. Got the Eagles new disc playing on the IIb's now....:music:

We'll see though, in a few weeks I may have a different opinion....$$$ heading to Nebraska for packing tomorrow.........:thmbsp:

I'm going to answer the question a little differently: If I had to get rid of everything but one amp, one tuner, one input device and one pair of speakers, it would mean I'm scaling WAAAAYY down, they're hauling me off to the retirement home, or my kids are scavenging all the shiny stuff and leaving me with one modest setup for personal use. It would have to be either DCM macrophones or EPI M60s. They are both modestly sized but not too small, so they would work for a wide range of situations, and sound gorgeous. Actually, case in point, I recently trimmed my secondary LP playback setup to a Pioneer SA-6800, Harman Kardon T55C and a pair of EPI M60s. The sound is rich and full and very satisfying.

I can't really choose between these two speakers. I guess I'd have to flip a coin.

It's interesting to review this randomly resurrected thread from more than two years ago and note that the leading contender was Altec Model 19.

Two-way with extended-bass woofer and compression driver/horn mids and highs compensated to provide flat frequency response.

Go figure.... :p:
