What is your perfect speaker?

An old set of Quad ESL 57s. Like fine wine and finer women...can't live too long without 'em! Narrow squeeze spot but the only speaker that can put Diana K. right in bed with you. Sigh*:D

:yes::yes::yes:

My Yamaha NS-1000x and M of course, plus NS-2000, 10000 and of course the legendary no holds barred GF-1.

Early AR 2AX. I keep trying others but always come back to these. Dynaco A25's close second. And when I finally get to my project 3A's we'll see if things change.

My perfect speaker... (so far)

I have been making speakers systems since 1969, produced speakers for retail and the music/TV industry, and the current modular system is my perfect speaker. I can afford it, and it plays everything in our family music collection (over 2000 CDs) well, with regular electronics (since my Hi End stuff all died of old age :().

When I was experimenting with the Sable system, I spent over 6 months comparing it to the final model of the Qysonic Array, with several of my friends assisting in the tests (some double-blind). The Sable was superior in every way to the Array, which had been my "perfect speaker" before.

I have heard a lot of amazing speakers, most of which I could never afford, but the Sable is not that much of a compromise. (even some reviewers agreed).

Any speaker that sounds exactly like my Koss ESP9b earspeakers. Closest ever is the KLH Nine. Or is the None the most excellent that the Koss emulates?

B&W Matrix 802's. I like the older ones, like the series II. They have such a balenced and tuneful sound. Some of the most accurate speakers I've ever heard. I wish i could afford to pay the premium to get that sound though...

My DIY speakers are perfect for me. Nothing compares. I can modify them to get the sound i like. Seas Excel magnesium drivers. Since i began diy, i can't see myself buying commercial speakers ever again.

I really couldn't pick one because as soon as I find one that sounds like there could be nothing better I find something that is. First it was KLH 510 Loudspeakers. Then it was KLH 900B's now it is Optimus PRO 7AV's (same as the Minimus 7's). And although the 7's are amazing they annoy me because something that small shouldn't sound that good.

I think I'd like the really big Westlake monitors with JBL and TAD drivers. I would like to try the super-efficient Avant Garde horn system.

But what I'm putting together now, with Altec 515E's in Jensen Imperial horn with Edgarhorn/compression driver on top, just might do it for me. Will try the Great Plains version, but hope to try TAD in there once...

Tannoy Monitor Gold 15s with near-stock crossovers in the Jensen is still remarkably good, though!

There were a Swedish loudspeaker brand manufactured during the -70´s
called Sonab.
[snip]
I can tell You this is speakers without any speaker sound, the clearness and openess is unbelievable.

I sold my OA-14s about a year ago. Before I listed them, I gave them a last listen, through much better electronics than I had used them with in college, when I bought them in the late 70s. They still had a lot of appeal, esp. in the right room.

The guy who bought them was very happy that I saved the original packaging for almost 30 years.

I used to work at Radio Shack many years ago...

The Realistic Mach One still holds a place near and dear to my heart.
Too bad when I worked at Radio Shack I didn't make enough money to buy a pair of mach one, oh well, I did get to listen to them every day for free.

i´d vote for the old Carlsson Ortho- Acoustic
Loudspeakers oa-51 and 52.3..=)

some photos off my oa-51 that im gonna put the new uppgrade kit with scanspeak 8545 and T11oa tweeter..=)
and the bigger oa52.3

carlsson is the same guy that made the sonab speakers like OA2212,OA116,oa114 and so on..
the OA51 and OA52 is the latest and the best speaker he ever made..=)

Some interesting choices....I'm probably in a time warp of 30 years, but my ears grew up on the West Coast Sound. Of the speakers I've owned, I would go with Altec A7's or JBL 4320's, but these need plenty of space to breathe.

At the present time, I'm falling in love with a pair of JBL L100 Century's as they have it all, size, power, clarity, creates a impressive soundstage, very transparent and can get freekin loud and still not fatique the ears. Moreover, they don't need a zillion watts to make them happy as do my Canton's.
