What is YOUR pet peeve? Let's have a laugh.

Today's Peeve-

Noticing that I have ridden the transition from "the customer is always right" to "the proprietor/business is always right".

When I first started working decades ago, customers were worshiped. We had to do everything to keep them happy. Now that I am older, and can afford to be a customer, the atmosphere has changed. Now it's "screw the customer". Everybody makes cheap **** products, doesn't stand behind them, make false claims, all with no repercussions. So basically, I guess I'm just the a-hole, at all times. I was the a-hole when I was in customer service, now I'm the a-hole as a customer.

This thought was triggered by eBay making yet another change to their shipping system, which dicked-up my label printer. I wasted tons of labels this morning before I figured it out. Who has to eat that cost? Me. Who's time was wasted? Mine. Where can I bitch? Here. Who cares? No one. LOL

I work in the IT field too, and it is driven almost entirely by needless updates that break things. Or updates to fix security holes that should have never been there in the first place. If there was some kind of accountability for all the WASTED TIME these companies cause by hiring minimum-wage programmers and rushing a programmatically swiss-cheese product to release, maybe they would actually VALUE a competent programmer, and actually TEST things before they release them.

OK, I'm done.

People who have to top others in posting, often with the most lame examples. People who, having reached the end of a thread, feel obligated to post something.

My recent pet peeve? People who make rotten comments like this ;

"The EV haters are extending their condolences for the OP inheriting an EV "

And then after being called on it, haven't the decency to admit that their "joke" was textbook Trolling and man up and apologize..... :(

...Here's the peeve - operating on the premise that software and technology can save one person a lot of time without any thought or consideration for the effect that one person's benefit has a tens or hundreds of others...

In a similar vein; we've probably all seen car stereos displayed for sale in a big rack, each with a flashy, constantly changing screen that is basically an advertisement for itself.

The peeve is that the display mode is the default setting, apparently for the convenience of the guy at each store setting up the display rack as opposed to every single end user.

To add insult to injury, I've never managed to turn off display mode in two of the last three aftermarket car stereos I've had. The method described in the instructions didn't change a thing.

Dealt with that this morning in my classic that I had to put a new battery in a couple weeks ago.

There are about 25 settings that need to be changed back to the way I had it and taking it out of demo mode is not at all intuitive.

It would be nice if they reserved a spot in that PROM where the demo mode config is stored..... for the last user settings.

I'm the guy that after working a spell at Sears in the Home Electronics dept. I learned how to turn on the Demo Mode on TV's I'd switch friends' sets into demo mode when they were out of the room.

I deal with a shload of email and don’t need you to respond with yet another text simply saying “thanks”.
Please stop.
I’m truly happy to help you and don’t need your cold “thanks” e-mail added to my inbox.
Thanks.

This might be because the manufacturers think that the people buying the car stereo are smarter than the people they hire to sell them, lol.

I stream talk radio (both conservative and liberal) on my office computer.

I'm amazed that these people expect you to take what they say as gospel, then do commercials trying to sell you the most worthless sh*t on the market.
They seem to be fond of gold.

That is right up there with every aging actor and sports hero selling reverse mortgages on TV.

Got what I think is a pretty valid "peeve".

Did a search on this issue, and only the mention of "sticky" came up, so, must be good-to-go.

It's when you are working with really sticky CLEAR tape, usually the wide stuff that you seal the cardboard boxes with.

The tape breaks...and now, ya gotta find the beginning of the darn roll! And you look, and look, and...

Usually, you have to go for better light. Run your fingers over trying to find where the tape broke. Or, you either get another fresh tape, or get someone else to help out!

A time wasted, and a couple of months of life lost due to frustration.

And, I'll bet I'm the only one who has this tape search peeve!:D
