I'm looking for garage speakers. 301's specifically. I didn't think they were those, but if they were 201's then I'd have bought them ($10). Turns out though, they are "141"s. Never even heard of those before.

Not a bad little extension speaker. Contains a single Bose StarDriver (i.e. Bose 464/802/402/901 driver). I used to have a set just as a portable speaker until I let a friend borrow them. He disappeared and so did the speakers.

i have a pair of the 141's; used tham as back channel speakes on my old surround sound system. not bad for the price

They are Bose 141, they sound great speacially for surround sound for movies that have bass like lord of the rings or star wars, they use the same size woofer as the 901's

When did Bose start putting woofers in 901s?
I have a pair of series II 901s and the speakers front and rear are all the same. Bass is controlled through their supplied equalizer.
At least that is how I understand the later versions to be still configured.

Much like the way KLH used their single-driver table radio speaker in the Model 5's as a midrange, Bose has used the later-model 901 driver for a number of applications and with different impedances. You'll also find the basic driver and basket used in many automobile audio applications where you find the Bose brand as well as in smaller speakers like the 141. You should consider them full-range drivers rather than a woofer, however. All of these applications, however, use active (in the case of the auto or 901 application) or passive (in the case of the 141) equalization to achieve the desired frequency response within the limitations of the cabinet.

Your Series II's, however, did not find Bose doing similar tactics since their product line in the early 70s was not that large.
