What modern things do you hate/dislike?

Look, we disagree and that's cool. No issue with that, and no point in continuing this discussion; we've both "said our piece." I just can't accept being misrepresented; I have NEVER, in any way, shape, or form, indicated that those with tattoos are therefore bad people

Then you should reread what you wrote, and read it slowly.

While you may not consider them “bad” people, you are judging their “actions” (getting a tattoo is a decision and acting on it), based on your personal beliefs, that have no backing from a religious stance, and that is a judgement on another’s actions, and is not backed from a New Testament stance.

See....there you go again. I'm making a judgement about getting tattoos; I think it's unhealthy, vain, stupid, unattractive, and that's before getting into religious reasons. I have also said that we ALL do stupid things. I am NOT judging people ..just expressing my extreme distaste for a certain action some people do. I have the same extreme distaste for public vulgarity, but there are plenty of basically good people who obviously don't share that opinion with me either.

maybe because your position is not defensible, regarding tattoos.

Hmmmm. Maybe reread my last post. First, and again, you're putting words in my mouth that I never said. I'm not talking about groups of people, I'm talking about actions. Tattoos are about appearance and vanity. Climbing and BASE jumping (unless done for clicks, likes, and InstaSpam) are done for experiences and thrills...and take skill and dedication. You're comparing apples and albatrosses.

You talk about people taking risks, as in getting tattoos. Well those who engage in extreme sports are taking risks. IOW, it is all risky, I just don’t see how getting a tattoo is any worse than BASE jumping.

Maybe people get a thrill out of getting a tattoo. how do you know a person’s innermost thoughts on why they get tattoos?

You should also look up the etymology of the word vanity. From an Ecclesiastical point, the word only implies emptiness or being pointless.

I would contend that everything we do, does not need a meaningful purpose.

Cheers.

Agreed. We just disagree on what risks are worth taking. Again, cheers, but please read carefully and stop misrepresenting me.

So much for olive branches. I tried. Out.
The reason I defend a person for getting tattoos, is I heard the same type of arguments from people, regarding my love of riding motorcycles. “Don’t you know how risky and dangerous they are?” Or that tired old saw, “I knew someone who died while riding a motorcycle”.

Been reading the back and forth. I do not think a person getting tattoos need to be defended, its a personal expression that people wear. Personally, I would never mark myself up, doesn't need defending either. Out in life I've seen many, thinking guys, with tattoos, that are survivors in one way or another and are really good and decent people, the kind first to help sometimes at personal risk, or calm an otherwise stressful situation. The other kind exist with or without tattoos. My father had a couple, one with a vine laced dagger with the words death before dishonor, another with the iconic don't tread on me. He got them in Europe following the Normandy invasion which he obviously survived. Storming a beach, combat is rather risky and many died or were severely wounded. Tattoos often make a statement, others are mindlessness fueled by alcohol and/or comradery, comradery is not at all mindless. I often ask a woman with tattoos, a particular one, about its meaning, inspiration and usually it represents something of great meaning to them, such as birth of a child, or remembrance of one who passed. In war, if I got one, it would be something like praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. It is what some people do and some people don't. Doesn't need defending or castigation. Take care and as we used to say, keep it between the ditches.

I don’t think it needs defending either. However, I love taking g person to task, who spout, “why are you doing that, don’t you know it is dangerous?” I want them to explain to me, why they are concerned with me getting a tat, riding a motorcycle, or any other dangerous activity. :D

Today, if you go to reputable artist, you will not get a tattoo if you have been drinking. If you to someone less reputable, your tattoo will probably suck.

I know. I'm past taking people to task for personal choices. Honestly, I understand either point of view and see merit within either point of view from the individual holding it. It is the thing about personal choices, they are personal with personal reasons behind them.

Some, most of the artwork I see is quite good, expressive, having nothing to do with my opinion of what is being expressed.

On these things, smart and stupid is how one defines it. You ain't stupid and smart not to like it. Offering a bit of my definition.
How true. To me, a smartphone is just another computer, but more portable.

However, I do not store any passwords on the phone, that have to do with finances. I don’t even store them on my desktop computer. I don’t need that much convenience.

Same here.

Properly done tats are not maiming or scarring.

There is a lot of creative artwork out there, and I love seeing a woman with a well crafted arm sleeve.

Oh and tats are hardly trendy. People have been wear them for decades. Only now, they are not frowned upon as they once were, by mainstream society.
Regarding tattoos, they used to be a fringe/subculture thing when I was growing up here in the Netherlands, and you (usually) had to travel to a big city find find a parlor.
Somewhere during the 90's it became commonplace and now there's a tattoo parlor in every town that's big enough to have two soccer clubs.
And observation leads to believe it's like that nearly everywhere in the western world.

It's just not special any more and unfortunately people's artistic decisions regarding what they put on themselves usually aren't that original.
The mastery of the craft is on average, on a pretty high level compared to the olden days.

Have you noticed that when people overdo plastic surgery and Botox, their faces tend to start looking alike? And not in a good way.

I've visited several more remote valleys in the Alpine bit of Austria where the folks seemed to have found a way to look like one another without the use of plastic surgery.

Wouldn't dare to call anyone who makes their own surgical or chemical body choices an inbred though.

All true, especially the caliber of the craft today!

Ignoring the bad choices and bad artwork, does it have to be special, to express an idea or subject?

It does not have to be anything, it's the effects of tattoo's becoming commonplace and associated mass behavior that I dislike.
I liked them better when they were an uncommon sight.
