What new product would you like to see?

I want a video server. With Escient coming out with video servers, I'm hoping McIntosh will not be far behind. It would be nice if the McIntosh version had a digital audio AES output so I can use the best connection to my MDA1000.

No blu-ray on those servers right? Also, do they use any kind of compression?

No blu-ray, they can do DVD and store video from a HDMI input (like a cable box). I'm not sure about the video compression (something like MPEG4or5). The video output can be up sampled to 1080p. They of course can do audio just like a MS750 with FLAC and they add the ability to store music uncompressed WAV.

An active balanced audio switcher that allows a MDA1000 (or MCD500) to be run direct to amps on one input and a MX-xxx pre/pro on the other. This switcher would be made to the highest quality standard as to not have any signal degradation when listening to the MDA1000. It would sense which input is active and automatically switch as appropriate (if both were active you could assign a default).

This would allow home theater users to have the highest quality 2 channel listening experience possible by not having to run the MDA1000 through the MX-xxx and not requiring switching cables back and forth to the amp. I believe there is a demand for this as many have no other need for an additional pre-amp of C500 or C1000 quality with a HT passthrough just to run the MDA through.

I would like a upgraded Music Server that would: 1) be based on the MCD-500 (for DAC's and SACD capability) 2) have about 1TB storage. 3) Be able to download hi-rez source either directly or from the internet 4) allow you to save music bit for bit (not just lossless) 5) an optional good looking touch screen interface. 6) Cost less than a SooLoos unit.

I want it all.

Stillone, what's the desire for bit for bit vs. lossless? Future compatibility? Sonic advantage?

On 2nd thought an MC230 wouldn't be much different from the MC225... Okay then MC240!!:scratch2:

While we're at it I'd like to see a new power amp in the 100-150 WPC range that's very high quality, beautiful, and more affordable. Now, the smallest SS amp is 250 WPC.

Digital pre-pro w/o legacy inputs

I would love to see a digital pre-pro without any legacy inputs that is designed for HT use with a passthrough for an separate analog preamp -- HDMI inputs/outputs along with Toslink and coax digital. My next pre-pro will not have any analog or legacy inputs used and I suspect that while not many on this forum would want such a pre-pro, there are some out there that have no need for legacy inputs in a pre-pro as long as there is an analog passthrough. Of course quality DACs should be included.

Now I am a total outcast... oh well :D

IMO, the Yamaha CDR-HD1500 that I use in one of my others systems and allows you to save the CD's Bit for Bit sounds better (before you run the units thru an external DAC), than the MS-300 using lossless encoding. Also when you make a CD copy it is bit for bit , not compressed then expanded FLAC. The bit for bit does take up a lot more Hard Disk space, but I only put the CD I like on that unit. It still holds about 300.

Bring back the wood cabinets.

I like Ryan's idea of a McIntosh sign.

Lastly, I think an equalizer would be good - with a blue spectrum analyzer display.

Great ideas Chuck -- all 3 IMO would be very nice.:thmbsp:

I'll modify the equalizer suggestion and make it a room correction device for standing waves/reflections.

That's what Stillone was getting at. WAV as you know is straight A-to-D, piling up bits at the sample rate, both channels. One CD is.. well 0.65GB. FLAC does have compression parameters as you also know. A good place to read about and discuss digital audio and algorithms is at Hydrogen Audio:

You might be able to do a lot of digital processing on your computer!! Many of the CODECs and GUIs are freeware. So then, how about a McIntosh LCD monitor in black with lit green nomenclature? :)

How about a McIntosh AC power line filter without the fancy glass panel that sits on the floor (or back of the rack) and does its thing? Maybe with a few red lamps and a couple of detachable aluminum handles? How about just a black box version (with one red lamp)? :scratch2:

Got the blue spectrum analyzer display already.

I have a non-professional 10 band analyzer and equalizer with mic and built-
in pink noise generator that EZ was selling years ago, an AudioControl C-101.

AudioControl is still out there: http://www.hometheateraudiocontrol.com/

Maybe McIntosh could go down that road, if they haven't already.
