What Record Are You Hearing Now?

Dance by Gary Newman.

The record was played only once on a Walker CJ55 turntable with a Signet XK35 tonearm and a Signet MR5.Oml cartridge. The audio was recorded to a Nakamichi metal cassette tape by my 3 head CR-3A Nakamichi tape deck. A few years later, playing the tape on the Nakamichi, the audio was then digitized via an iMic, using Audacity software, into my PC through a USB port. Now I'm listening to that lossless digitized version over the WiFi network through my Logitech Squeezebox and out via a toslink cable to my Cambridge Audio DAC. From there into my NAD preamp onto a NAD amp to my Vandersteen 2Ces and Vandersteen 2Wq subwoofer.

Does that count as listening to vinyl?

My wife says it's like listening to vinyl via a Star Trek transporter.

Various Artists - Electric Breakdance, Dominion NU-2320

I found this NM LP at a thrift shop recently. A 1984 release featuring:

Newcleus
Double Vision
Whodini
D-Train
Twilight 22
Grandmaster Flash & Mellie Mel
G.L.O.B.E. & Whiz Kid
B.T. & The City Slickers
Run-D.M.C.

Pretty good compilation of early Hip-Hop/Breakdance tunes. A far cry from the "Gangsta Rap" that would come in later years.

I'm trying to listen to an old VOX recording engineered by RVG, of Grieg, several Norwegian short pieces. I ran it through the VPI and steamed it twice, and it's still noisy.
I guess it goes in the discard pile, back to the Goodwill. Too bad.
