What the krell...

It's not brisling with enough heat sink to be fully class a. No doubt some sort of sliding bias setup. Regardless, I'd guess it's a fine amp.

The output of the input stage drives a fully discrete, current-mode voltage gain stage. Its output in turn drives a quadruple-Darlington output stage, which comprises three Class A driver stages driving a Class AB output stage. So while most of the TAS is biased into Class A operation, its output stage is not. Krell feels this is the best way to achieve near Class A operation without all the necessary heat expenditures a fully Class A topology, as in their higher end models, would require

With the exception of a bazillion drivers and output transistors, not terribly different from the way it has been done since 1978 by dozens of mfgr's.

Not to belittle the beast. It's nice, but I wouldn't want to be the one lugging it around.

Complaining about how heavy my Krell amp is will be awesome. MY Krell monoblocks are sooooooo heavy. I can't wait.

I'm debating whether I really want to fool around with a Krell boat anchor amp.

I have one of those, but the 7 channel version. Oh yeah, and it's only 140WPC

And YES, a dolly would help.

They should sell a customized Krell inflatable tire dolly as an accessory.
And leather welding gloves!

There's just no good way to get your hands on the FPB's and KSA's, and the corners of the heat sinks are too damn sharp for handling 100+ lb amplifiers.

^^^
Yeah, I like that my Levinson 23 has handles front and rear because most of the rest is covered by similarly pointy heat sinks. Still a PITA to handle though because because of the weight.

You poor bastards, your high end amps are so heavy. Where's my emoticon of the tiniest violin in the world...

What would be a steal price on the Krell TAS ?
There's one on ebay that won't go away, relisted at least a half dozen times at 4000, which IMO is too much.

MSRP was 7500, IMO fair market for a perfect and complete(box/crate, manual, trinkets) example would be around half that, maybe a hair less. I don't think you'd be stealing it until you got below 2500 or so.

Just my .02.............. apologies to you fellas that bought em new.

There's one local to me with box,etc for just less than your number - I just have to convince the wife - I bought a 4k tv that I said in a moment of foolishness that I would pay for by selling gear - so it's going to be a tough sell.....
