What to pair with bose 901's?

The speaker DC resistance (0 Hz) has very little to do with the speaker impedance from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. Measurement is fine but it won't lead you to the answer.

From the other thread, since you are thinking about running another set of speakers with the 901s.

If you use the 901 EQ you will NOT be able drive any other speakers with that power except Bose 901s because of the eq added to the signal to get the 18 midrange drivers to do bass and treble. That eq will blow up a pair of Klipsch. The Bose EQ is a very highly boosted 'smile' on an eq. Plus 20 dB in the treble and nearly the same on the bass end. Amp killing asking for all that power.

The EQ is best used in the signal processor input output on the SX-1980, that is what the sig proc is for on that unit, the Bose EQ or Pioneer EQ and those types of units.

If you get a second set of speakers you need a second set of power channels. Use the EQ with one of them and not with the other one (unless they are 901s), then you can put the eq between the preamp output and the power amp input. But for everyday use, one set of speakers, the 901s that is the wrong place for the eq, it is a noisier position to put it.

Why do you need to know the ohms of your receiver? What does that mean or what are you trying to ask?

I did just confirm the sx-1980 is wired parallel internally. When I'm running A (bose 901's) and turn on B(nothing hooked up to it) it doesn't kill my sound. Is there any real way to test the ohms of my receiver.

I'm wondering if the OP uses the bass controls or the loudness when listening. This along with the Bose EQ will surely make that monster receiver much less monsterly sucking the power out of it for the low frequency energy is it being asked to deliver.

Do you suppose it would help matters had I said it's a "0.2 ohm receiver", based on the specified damping factor of 40 and 8 ohm load?

The OP wants to run two pair of 8 ohm speakers, yet still maintain 8 ohm load on the receiver. Not much else seems to matter.

Far as I can see pretty much all the insight has been passed along how to get the Bose 901s going properly. If the OP wants to run two pair of 8 ohm speakers, despite suggestions otherwise, and still maintain ~8 ohms on the receiver, then here's how:

Use an impedance-matching speaker selector. Simple resistance-based units work but waste power. Autoformer-type impedance matching selector are more efficient but also more expensive.

Thanks man. As he said. I'm just trying to figure out if I can run four 8 ohm speakers on two sets of outputs (I.e. A&B) on my pioneer sx-1980 at a 8ohm load, and how would I go about setting that up.
 
I have already figured out that my best option is to probably drive the 901's only and buy a good powered subwoofer. Any suggestions? I was looking at klipsch. Although I was disappointed to see that they no longer have the passive radiator.
 
Without impedance matching there is no way to hook up two 8 ohm speakers and have the result be 8 ohms. Choice is 16 for series connection and 4 ohm for parallel connection. Can't hook em up another way having just 2 speakers.

You won't be doing that either with the Bose EQ. Why not optimize the speaker placement?

wouldn't be hard. Preamp out to the sub, sub return to the bose eq into the power amp in. Done. Not as good as using the sig pro loop but it will work.
