Well you didn’t list a specific model Thorens, just TD. Of those I’d want the 124, after that the LP12. LOVE the Sansui SR too, I own a minty 838 as well.

How about a new Schiit "SOL" turntable. Suppose to be a killer turntable for $800.

But then when someone comes over, you can tell them, " I got a new piece of Shiit gear" Still hard to believe that using that name would lead to them becoming successful. I like the looks of it though.

I would think the Sansui would be your only choice with its killer looks.

Yeah, it surely engages laughter. :D

I thought it was about performance. I try not to gauge turntables on looks... though it can be a tie breaker.
Same for buying shoes, cars, etc. You need to be attracted to the looks of it as you are going to live with it for quite some time. I was just trying to say something nice about it considering its name.

It is the inner 4th grader in all these old folks that think they are getting away with saying a bad word. It was chosen for that exact reason. Publicity good or bad is still putting the company name out there. Childish is what I think but the name is selling their gear.

What’s the price range and goal?
Must it sound awesome, simply look awesome, or do both?
That asked, I do like the Garrard 401.. A neighbor of mine has one that both looks and sounds very nice.

I would sure like to hear a heavy platter, precision bearing idler drive like a TD124 or a 301, done up right with a custom plinth and modern arm. Just based on how much I like a couple of Dual changers (1218 and 1009) I have lying around. Ah, but to dream...

Since you have an 838 I would go with another make. I have the 838 with a Denon DP-61f fully auto in the main rig so it gives the flexibility of not having to get up at the end of the record for those times when your hands are busy.

always nice to pay less for better performance eh

Should be able to pick one up for 1/3 - 1/2 your budget, though it originally retailed for $3495 back in 1985, bargain of the vinyl world right now.

Around the $2K USD
That is about what the KD-600 is worth with that Fidelity Research tonearm and appropriate very low compliance cartridge.

Those two turntables are exactly the same with to the mm. Doesn't look it but they are.
