There is no general answer, but here's MY answer - Pioneer SX-D7000

Never seen that one before. It's gorgeous!

I always felt the Kyocera receivers were a very nice, timeless design. I've had this one since new in 1983.

- Technics SA-1010 - for being impressively huge
- Aiwa AX-S50 - for being the opposite
- BASF D-5055 - for the cool silver look
- Nakamich SR-xE and TA-xE family - for the cool black look
- AR X-xx family - for the nice design
- Kenwood KR-720/750 - also for the cool silver look
- Kenwood KR-80 - for being flat
- Marantz SR9000G, SR8010DC, SR8100DC & SR820DC - for looking also nice in champagne?
- Braun Regie 530/550d, Saba 9241 and Telefunken TRX2000/3000 - for their nice late 70s look
- Braun Atelier R1 - also for the nice design

and last, but not least, the modest Yamaha RX-330, for me having one and liking it, especially as it still works.

I'm talking about receivers with a digital display. I've seen tons of threads on the best looking receivers from the silver-faced era, but not much regarding stuff from like '84 on. So maybe I should have titled it "Best looking receivers from the BPC era."

A little older than 1984, and almost no plastic, my vote goes to the Revox B780:

While all these receivers shown have digital displays, a DAC, and digital inputs I'm not sure how many are class D.

This Panasonic SA-XR55 receiver uses the Texas Instrument Equibit and is described as a DAC with enough power to drive speakers.

I bought mine when they were introduced around 10 years ago and it's still going strong.

Digital AV receivers never caught on as they were so lightweight compared to traditional receivers folks didn't take them seriously but they should have.

I also have a JVC digital powered receiver.

I have the same one in black. I wouldn't say it's the nicest looking receiver but it's not ugly. I have a Sansui receiver with the fluorescent numbered dial. It's not digital but the OP hasn't qualified his question about "digital".
