Whats your best sounding speaker Prior to 1970 You ever Listened To

Quad ESL-57. Best midrange detail I have EVER heard to date. Still own a stacked pair. They never fail to impress.

Easy
KLH Nines, especially in multiples
Bozak Concert Grand
Bozak Symphony (same sound as the CG just do not go that slightly couple of hz down in the bass)

In that order.

I am not sure of the year, but I really liked the AR3a speakers. I was gonna say the Yamaha NS1000M but that was released in 1973. I also liked the Altec Lansing Model 19s....

Prior to 1970 the best speaker system I ever auditioned was the Infinity ServoStatic 1. Two electrostatic panels for the highs and mids and a sub module for the bass. The shop I listened to them in had the panels hung from the ceiling about 4-5 feet out from the back wall and at ear level sitting down. Awesome speaker for the time but difficult to set up correctly without a whole bunch of time and money. Thought someday I'd own a set but that never happened.................

AR 3A's sounded great then and still do. They are ugly as hell to look at without the grills, but sound amazing to this day.

AR2a's sound pretty good after rehab.

Klipschorns with a HK Citation tubed gear and a Thorens TD-124 at a friend's place (that was my dream system as a kid!). Regarding speakers that I owned (and still own), Acoustic Research AR-3.

EV Patricians with a Citation I pre and a deuce power amp I wished it was mine at the time ! Some years lalter I acquired a Citation I and a phase linear 700b but no patricians but I did have some Altec model 19's I liked a lot .
The Patricians were in a large room and had a smooth response with a very balanced sound. At least that's what I recall. It was a long time ago. I also got to hear some JBL Paragons about the same time The patricians were smoother I thought .

Got a pair of Wharfedale ,Airedales from 62 or 63 that sound pretty good. I've never got around to recapping them yet so I don't really know their potential but I do know they need a much bigger room than what they're in now.

Best sounding speakers i have heard pror to 1970 would have to be the Altec A-7 500s. VERY LARGE but the midrange was outstanding. Great speakers, if you can live with their size.
