Sorry, but I have to correct you on that: the origin of the name came from the Canada goose's Latin name, Branta canadensis. With the word 'canadensis' being the neo-Latin word that literally means "Canada". Within the Latin names used in biology and species identification, the word canadensis is applied to an innumerable amount of flora and fauna species that are common to, endemic to, or that were discovered in Canada. There are too many to list. But the Canada goose is one of those species.

With that said, you may be the only person I know of whose favourite bird species is the Canada goose. lol They're loud, obnoxious, they leave poop EVERYWHERE, and are ornery as hell during the spring when they are nesting, and while rearing their young. But yeah, they always play nice when fries are involved. :rflmao:

Of all the ones I've been a part of, so far anyway, I'd say the 90s. Not really because it was a decade of note that made it particularly "more special" than any other, but for me, it had more to do with that time of my life than anything: the economy was mostly either good or booming, and was generally very prosperous; it was before 9/11 and was mostly a time of peace, and other than a few, there weren't a ton of worldwide skirmishes; most of the decade was also post-Cold War, so there was none of that nonsense hanging over anyone's heads; at the beginning of the decade I was still a child, and by the end of the decade I was a legal adult, so that decade played a big part of my development as a person; other than a couple incidences, there were no fears of an imminent domestic threat of terrorism, there weren't several recessions, there were no pain in the ass worldwide pandemics, inflation and the price of goods weren't on an astronomical trajectory, and the world just seemed so much less insane and socially hostile as things are today.

The 90s were also an extremely carefree time of little to no responsibility for me too. I was still a kid or a teen, and it was mostly a time before I had to worry about a "job" (even though I had a few in my teens and was always industrious as a kid), a "career", paying bills, planning my future, etc. There is a lot of excitement in those things that come with adulthood, but there's also something to be said about a time where you have no worries in life at all, and all of those things are taken care of you because you're still a child, and the only worries you have are going for bike rides, playing baseball with friends, getting two months off from school every year and doing whatever you want all summer, and perhaps doing your homework and chores at home so you didn't get your ass whooped. lol

But within the restrictiveness of being a child, those were also some of the most free and carefree days of my life. I have more privileges now (as well as a lot more responsibilities), and I have also done more cool things as an adult, but on average from year to year, I would say the 90s were the most fun, carefree and secure. With that said, I'm interested to see what the coming decades bring, as they have the potential to be some of my best yet if things go right.

Spiced Peach preserves a friend in Washington State cans and gives to us. Great on hot buttered rye toast or even as part of a PBJ.

Favorite smell?
 
The smell of earth after a rain or in the morning's dew. It has so many variations, and it's like nature's perfume. It's intoxicating.

Well, we've obviously read 2 very different accounts about the discovery of the bird. Since neither of us was present, I guess it depends on which account you choose to believe.

Either way, I find them to be beautiful and I never experienced any aggression from them. The white goose tends to be rather aggressive. However, I have had to take a leafblower and blow goose poop off of customers' lawns. So, that aspect of them is not a favorite of mine.

As for me favoring them, what I like and what's popular tend to be polar opposites. Most of my favorite things are those things that no one else likes and the things I want no part of are usually the most popular things.

Last thing of the day? Falling asleep to good music.
