What's your favorite opening notes?

For me, nothing compares to the opening notes of Burlesque by Family on the Bandstand album. Superb guitar by Whitney, soaring bass from Wetton, Townsend's crisp drumming---a barely audible "yea" from Chapman at the 6 second mark---and you are hooked by the time Chapman joins in at about 18 seconds into the song.

The combination of monks and pipe organ at the beginning of "Center of Eternity" (Ozzy! Ozzy! :guitar::rockon: )

Black Sabbath-on Sabbaths first LP...

that thunder and the bells set the stage for what is to follow.

"it was a dark and stomy night"

"fasten your seat belts its going to be a bumpy ride"

ah...to be 15 again

I think people are mising the point of the OP, its track 1 side 1 were looking for, andI think the OP statement of 13th Floor Elevators is hard to beat, however for me its Search and Destroy by Iggy and the Stooges of Raw Power. First time I heard that the top of my head actually popped off and hit the ceiling

I like the song that goes duh-duh, duh, duh, duh, du-du-du-du-du-du-du-du, du , du...

ThAt song rules....

Yes I agree, "One of these Days" by Pink Floyd off Meddle

#1 Boston - Hitch a Ride
#2 Steely Dan - Hey Nineteen
#3 Pink Floyd - Money

That's all I have to say about that.

Let's try again...

My second favorite, Side 1, Track 1, opening bars:

The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil
(AFTER BATHING AT BAXTERS), Jefferson Airplane

Jorma's feedback wail, followed by that old fiddle line on Kantner's banjo. "Ohh, hey! This is gonna be different!"

I think people are mising the point of the OP, its track 1 side 1 were looking for

whoa.

a couple spring to mind

the single "chord" opening crash of "Serve the Servants," (Nirvana- In Utero)

the fleeting acoustic intro to "I've just seen a face" on the US Rubber Soul LP

The VC3 on "Baba O'Riley"

Opening guitar strum- "Ask the Angels" (Patti Smith- Radio Ethiopia)

Atlanta Rhythm Section - A Rock and Roll Alternative opening track "Sky High".

Bad Company - Runnin' With The Pack

Cream - Wheels of Fire - "White Room"

I listen to classical, jazz and opera plus chamber music. But, there is one rock album I love, Pink Floyd, "Dark Side of the Moon", the original LP, not the remastered CD. Of course the opening notes of "Money" is it for me.

Reelin' in the Years/Steely Dan
Good Times/Bad Times/Led Zeppelin
Sunshine of Your Love/Cream

These are Rock intros....

Gee, I had to contribute. I'll stew it around in my head and do better next time....
