What's your favorite opening notes?

Sunshine of Your Love/Cream

Where rock is concerned, right album. Rick. :thmbsp:

In accordance with pmsummer's original challenge, re Side A/Track 1"best openers", Side A of Cream's Disraeli Gears starts off with a bang: Strange Brew is certainly a contender for best (rock) album opener ever.

Marvin Gaye - "Let's Get It On" (there'll never be a song that beats that one)
John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers - "All Your Love"
Van Halen - "And the Cradle Will Rock"

Jerusalem-ELP-Brain Salad Surgery
2112-Rush-2112
Back In Black-AC/DC-Back In Black
Finding My Way-Rush-Rush
Smoke On The Water-Deep Purple-Machine Head (Yes I know, side 2, but stilll......epic)

WAY overplayed:
Highway to Hell-AC/DC-Highway to Hell

While were talking AC/DC how about Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap with the first track by the same name. The first record I bought with my own money back in 1978... I was 8 years old.:D:thmbsp:

thin lizzy-vagabond of the western world
alex harvey-anthem
wishbone ash-handy
atomic rooster-death walks behind you
funkadelic-maggot brain
chris bell- i am the cosmos

Side 1, Track 1:
Blondie - Dreaming, from "Eat To The Beat"
Pat Benatar - Sex As A Weapon, from "Seven The Hard Way"

Favorite from any song:
The Doors - Love Her Madly. Robbie Krieger's electric guitar playing those opening chords always puts a smile on my mug. :D

Good evening all, my all time fav is The Jimi Hendrix Experience 'Purple Haze' (already nominated), and my next fav is George Harrison's 'What is Life' from 'All things Must Pass'. Regards, catman.

Good question. This thread is bringing back some memories for a lot of us.

Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill (Reelin' In The Years) (pick a song, hell, pick an album)

Blue Oyster Cult - The Best of B.O.C. (Don't Feel the Reaper)

Supertramp - Breakfast in America, Crim of the Century, Even in the Quietest Moments

Poco - Legend

CCR - Cosmos Factory (IMO, that was their 'greatest hits' album.) Favorite beginning of a song on this album would probably be 'Up Around the Bend', but they're all good.

Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride (I know, I'm stretching the rules a bit. You did ask for LP, rather than song.)

"Clash City Rockers" is a great way to open the first Clash Album.I espescially like that it harkens back to "I Cant Explain" by the Who.
Jimmy

1) the first song from 'Dark Side of the Moon'; muffled sounds, deceptively leisurely guitar; "Breathe..."
2) the cool/eerie synth from Flaming Lips' 'Quiet Bulletin'. sets the tone for the album, which has a vaguely science-fiction feel to it. (think the single was 'race for the prize').

different era, but what of the chords to 'jailhouse rock'?

whoomp whoomp.
whooomp whoomp. (tick tick)
whoomp whoomp. (tick tock)
"I've been mad for f**king years, absolutely years. I've been over the edge for yonks..."
whoomp whoomp (tick tick tick tock)
"I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us are. It's very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad"
whoomp whoomp
"Aaiiiigh! Aaaaaaaaigh! Aaaaaaaigh!"
